This study identifies the historical context and driving forces behind the reception and circulation of the Ch'awŏnbu sŏrwŏngi, a biographical account of Ch'a Wŏn-bu, a prominent ancestor of the Yŏnan Ch'a clan, during the Chosŏn period. Although the Ch'awŏnbu sŏrwŏngi is a work that falsely attributed the names of renowned figures such as the Sayuksin(the six martyred scholar-officials) for the purpose of clan glorification, it was read relatively widely and exerted significant influence until the late Chosŏn period. This was primarily due to its utility as a general p'ilgi text: specifically, its effectiveness as a guide for prose composition through the use of rhetoric and classical allusions, and its appeal as an unofficial history containing historical precedents from the founding era of the Chosŏn dynasty. The Sarim(Neo-Confucian literati) of the Yŏngnam region played a crucial role in the early circulation of the text. They took note of the presence of the Sayuksin, who were designated as the compilers of the work, and actively interpreted Ch'a Wŏn-bu’s wrongful death by linking it to the loyalty of the Sayuksin who were sacrificed during the movement to restore King Tanjong. By aligning with the literary tastes of contemporary literati and being connected to the historical trend of re-evaluating the Sayuksin, the Ch'awŏnbu sŏrwŏngi became established as a staple of general reading. Consequently, it transcended a mere family narrative to be accepted as a source of historical precedent, further exerting influence as a work possessed of a certain degree of historiographical value.

본 연구는 16세기 후반 延安車氏 가문의 현조인 車原頫의 일대기를 다룬 『車原頫雪冤記』가 조선시대에 수용되고 유통된 역사적 맥락과 후대에 끼친 영향을 구명하였다. 『설원기』는 가문의 선양을 목적으로 死六臣 등 명사의 이름을 假託하여 작성된 저술임에도 조선 후기까지 비교적 널리 유통되어 읽힌 책이다. 이는 일차적으로 『설원기』가 일반적인 사대부의 독서물로서 유용성이 있었기 때문인데, 행문과 전고 활용의 참고 자료로서의 효용과 조선 건국기의 역사 전고를 담은 야사로서의 흥미 등이 그것이다. 『설원기』의 초기 유통에는 영남지역의 사림이 중요한 역할을 하였다. 이들은 『설원기』의 편찬자로 설정된 사육신의 존재에 주목하고, 차원부의 억울한 죽음을 단종 복위 운동 과정에서 희생된 사육신의 충절과 결부시켜 적극적으로 독해하였다. 『설원기』는 당대 사대부들의 문예적 취향에 부합하고 사육신의 재평가라는 역사적 흐름에 결부되어 일반적 독서물로 정착하였다. 그리하여 한 가문의 서사를 넘어 역사 전고로 수용되고 나아가 일종의 사료적 가치를 지닌 저술로서 영향을 미치게 되었다.
