This study introduces and examines nine autograph manuscripts of Nam Yeong-ro newly identified in the collection of the descendants of Nam Gye-u. The materials consist of five letters, two Chinese poems, and two prose writings. Although Nam Yeong-ro is widely known as the author of the classical novel Oknumong, autograph materials written in his own hand have rarely been identified. In this respect, these materials serve as important primary sources for a more concrete understanding of his life and literary activities. The letters, sent from Yongin to Nam Gye-u and other relatives in Seoul, record exchanges of personal news as well as aspects of contemporary daily life. The poems and prose writings reflect personal sentiments, the sorrow of parting, travel experiences, and everyday observations. Though limited in number, these materials demonstrate Nam Yeong-ro’s versatility in handling multiple genres and attest to his literary competence. Furthermore, this study contributes to a broader understanding of Oknumong. The novel contains numerous inserted letters and prose passages, suggesting a generically multilayered literary world. The newly discovered autograph materials provide concrete evidence supporting this view and offer clues to his connections with Seoul-based literati, thereby expanding the scope of Nam Yeong-ro studies.

본고는 남계우 후손가에 소장된 남영로의 친필 9점을 새롭게 발견․소개하고, 그 자료적 의미에 대하여 논의한 것이다. 해당 자료는 서간문 5점, 한시 2점, 산문 2점으로 구성된다. 남영로는 고전소설의 대표작인 <옥루몽>의 작가로 알려져 있으나, 작품이 여러 차례 필사․간행된 것과 달리 그가 직접 작성한 친필 자료는 지금까지 확인되지 않았다. 이러한 점에서 본 자료는 남영로의 생애와 문학 활동을 구체적으로 이해하는 데 중요한 기초가 된다. 서간문은 용인에 거주하던 남영로가 서울에 있던 남계우 및 친척들에게 보낸 것으로, 안부 교환과 당시의 생활 현실을 담고 있다. 한시와 산문은 개인적 정서와 이별의 감회, 유람 경험과 일상적 체험 등을 서술한 것이다. 비록 분량은 많지 않으나, 다양한 장르의 글을 직접 창작하였다는 점에서 남영로 작품의 문체적 다양성과 문학적 역량을 확인할 수 있다. 아울러 본 자료의 검토는 <옥루몽>에 대한 이해를 확장하는 데에도 기여한다. <옥루몽>에는 다수의 서간문과 산문이 삽입되어 있어 남영로의 문학 세계가 장르적으로 다층적이었을 것이라 추정해 왔다. 이번에 확인된 친필 자료는 이러한 추정을 실증적으로 뒷받침하는 근거가 된다. 또한 남영로가 서돈보․서유영 등 서울 문인들과 교유하였을 가능성을 보여주는 단서로 활용할 수 있다는 점에서도 의미가 있다.
