The Shitennoji Wasso Festival, a representative festival of Osaka that has continued for over 30 years, has successfully established itself as an inclusive multicultural exchange festival, reaffirming the identity of the Zainichi Korean community and reconstructing the history of Osaka's ancient gateway role, despite the lingering anti-Korean sentiment in mainstream Japanese society. This study examines the sustainable success factors of this festival by focusing on the resolute management philosophy of the late Honorary Chairman Lee Hee-geon and its practical fusion with the Kotodama Shinkō (言霊信仰, Spirit of Language Belief) inherent in East Asian culture. The Kotodama Shinkō is a belief that mystical spiritual power resides in words, asserting that positive verbal conduct actively creates reality. This concept is linked to the three powers of words presented by Kim Jin-hyuk (2015): engraving power (각인력), drawing power (견인력), and achieving power (성취력). Honorary Chairman Lee Hee-geon's frequently repeated management philosophy, “It is important to involve many people in whatever we do,” functioned not merely as a motto but as a practical declaration of the Kotodama belief. This declaration acted as the engraving power that deeply impressed itself upon the mindset of the festival organizers and constituents. It then functioned as the drawing power, continuously expanding the festival’s scale and nature. As a result, the festival transcended its initial goal of establishing the Zainichi Korean identity. Through the verification of Japanese historians, the parade came to encompass all historical figures and nations related to Osaka’s ancient gateway role, including the ancient Korean kingdoms of Gaya, Baekje, Silla, and Goguryeo, along with Balhae and Tamna. This inclusion is assessed as the practical realization of the achieving power of his words, historically and culturally fulfilling the philosophy of ‘expanding participation.’ The Shitennoji Wasso Festival demonstrates a successful transition from a festival focused on the Zainichi Korean community to an inclusive multicultural festival supported by Japanese corporations and city administration, and directly involving Osaka citizens. This transformation was powerfully driven by Honorary Chairman Lee Hee-geon’s ‘participation’ management philosophy (the practical implementation of the Kotodama belief). The study suggests that a leader’s positive and broad declaration of vision is a crucial factor in overcoming historical conflicts and consolidating community capabilities.

오사카의 대표적인 축제로 30년이 넘는 시간 동안 지속되어 온 ‘사천왕사 왔소축제’는 일본 주류사회에 여전히 혐한(嫌韓)의 기류가 남아있는 상황에서도 재일교포 사회의 정체성을 확인하고 오사카의 고대 관문 역사를 재현하며 포용적인 다문화 교류 축제로 자리 잡고 있다. 본 연구는 이 축제의 지속 가능한 성공 요인을축제를 발의한 故 이희건 명예회장의 확고한 경영철학과 동양 문화권에 내재된 언령신앙(言霊信仰)의 실천적 융합에서 고찰하였다. 언령신앙은 말에 신비한 영력이 깃들어 긍정적인 언행이 곧 현실을 창조한다고믿는 신앙이며, 이는 김진혁(2015)이 제시한 말의 각인력, 견인력, 성취력이라는세 가지 힘과 연결된다. 이희건 명예회장이 자주 언급한 “무슨 일이든 많은 사람을참여시키는 게 중요하다”는 경영철학은 단순한 좌우명이 아니라, 언령신앙의 실천적 선언으로 작용하였다. 이 선언은 축제 구성원들의 사고방식에 깊이 새겨지는‘각인력’이 되었으며, 축제의 규모와 성격을 지속적으로 확대하는 ‘견인력’으로 기능하였다. 그 결과, 축제는 초기의 재일교포 정체성 확립이라는 목표를 넘어, 일본인 역사학자의 고증을 통해 고대 한반도의 가야, 백제, 신라, 고구려와 더불어 발해, 탐라등 오사카의 고대 관문 역할과 관련된 모든 인물과 국가를 퍼레이드에 포괄하였다. 이는 ‘참여 확대’ 철학을 역사적, 문화적으로 완성한 실질적인 말의 성취력을실현한 것이라 판단된다. 결론적으로, ‘사천왕사 왔소 축제’는 이희건 명예회장의 ‘참여’ 경영철학(언령신앙의 실천)이 강력한 추진력으로 작용하여, 재일교포 사회의 축제에서 오사카 시민들이 직접 참여하고 일본 기업과 시 행정이 지원하는 ‘포용적인 다문화 축제’로성공적으로 전환되었음을 증명하고 있다. 이는 역사적 갈등을 극복하고 공동체 역량을 결집하는 데 있어 리더의 긍정적이고 광범위한 비전 선언이 얼마나 중요한요인인지를 시사하고 있다.
