In order to properly understand recent TV historical dramas, it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive study on fictional historical dramas which have emerged as a mainstream trend in the 2020s. This is because there have been many individual analyses of works that adopted the fictional historical drama genre, while there have been few serious discussions about the types of this genre. Based on this understanding, this study turned its attention to a new subject of study: the female protagonists who appeared in fictional historical dramas aired in the 2020s. The method of analyzing them was to closely highlight their desires within the drama. Furthermore, concepts derived from Lacan’s theory of desire were used as an analytical tool. The desires of the female protagonists were grouped based on their commonalities. As a result, they can be categorized into livelihood, self-development, power, and revenge. Furthermore, applying Lacan’s theory of desire to each category revealed that ‘livelihood’ evokes empathy among ordinary working women viewers. ‘Self-development’ implies the creation of narratives and spaces of fantasy that cannot be realized through historical evidence, while ‘power and revenge’ conveys the sentiment of overcoming the prejudices and limitations that portray women as the weak and the dominated. This study referred to existing studies in which many researchers have applied concepts from Lacan’s theory of desire to the analysis of characters in literary works. Nevertheless, acknowledging that this is the first application to historical TV dramas, there may be shortcomings that need to be supplemented through subsequent research.

최근의 TV사극을 제대로 이해하기 위해서는 2020년대 들어서 주류를 형성 중인 픽션사극에 대한 본격적인 연구가 필요하다. 픽션사극을 취한 작품의 개별적인 분석은 많았으나 이 장르의 유형에 대해서 본격적으로 논의한 경우는 흔치 않았기 때문이다. 본고는 이러한 인식을 바탕으로 새로운 연구 대상에 주목했다. 그것은 바로 2020년대에 방영되었던 픽션사극 속에 등장했던 여성 주인공이었다. 이를 분석하는 방법으로 그들이 극중 가진 욕망을 집중적으로 조명해 보았다. 그리고 분석 도구로 Lacan의 욕망 이론에서 제시한 개념을 사용했다. 여성 주인공의 욕망을 공통점별로 묶은 결과 생계유지, 자기 계발, 권력 및 복수로 유형화할 수 있다. 그리고 유형별로 Lacan의 욕망 이론 개념을 적용한 결과 ‘생계유지’는 소시민 직장 여성 시청자의 공감을 유도한다는 함의가 발견되었다. ‘자기 계발’은 고증으로는 불가능한 환상성의 서사와 공간을 창조한다는 함의, ‘권력 및 복수’에서는 여성은 약자와 피지배층이라는 편견과 한계를 극복하는 정서를 전달하는 함의가 각각 발견되었다. 본고는 선행 연구자가 수행했던 Lacan의 욕망 이론 속 개념을 작품의 캐릭터 분석에 활용하였으나 TV사극에 적용한 건 처음인 까닭으로 미흡한 부분은 후속 연구로 보완한다.
