This study aims to analyze how the sensory experience constructed by the film (2023) reinforces the affects of anxiety and order in contemporary Korean society. Based on Lefebvre (2013)’s theory of Rhythmanalysis, the study endeavors to closely examine the process by which the film generates and disrupts rhythms to shape sensory perception. In the film’s post-disaster setting, where anxiety about survival prevails, the characters’ ways of life- which seek to navigate daily existence based on a rigid order- resemble the communal model considered rational in today’s Korean society, where the future is fraught with uncertainty. Consequently, the paradoxes of capitalism that the film seeks to critique, along with ‘Young-Tak’s’ extreme violence, reinforce the affect of pursuing a strong order, while ‘Myeong-Hwa’s’ resistance to Hwang-Gung Apartment’s system intensifies the affect of anxiety. An analysis of the film’s rhythmic structure reveals that the daily rhythm of Hwang-Gung Apartment, led by Young-Tak, alignes with the rhythm of daily life aspired to by contemporary Korean society. The film organizes the order of Hwang-Gung Apartment to function in a relatively eurhythmia, in contrast to Myeong-Hwa, who advocates for morality and solidarity. Therefore, the film’s narrative and directorial devices, intended to create tension through Young-Tak, produces the unintended effect of positioning Myeong-Hwa as the central axis of arrhythmia, which disrupts the eurhythmia of Young-Tak’s system within the film. Consequently, although Myeong-Hwa serves as the film’s messenger, this study confirms that she actually reinforces the affect of the anxiety and the powerful pursuit of order present in contemporary Korean society, and that the socially critical messages conveyed through her are in sensory conflict.

본 연구는 영화 <콘크리트 유토피아> (2023)가 조직하는 감각적 경험이 동시대의 한국 사회의 불안과 질서의 정동을 어떻게 강화하고 있는지 분석하였다. Lefebvre (2013)의 리듬분석 이론을 토대로 영화가 리듬을 생성하고 깨뜨리며 감각을 형성하는 과정을 면밀하게 탐색하고자 하였다. 영화 속 재난 이후 생존에 대한 불안이 자리한 환경에서 강력한 질서를 기반으로 일상을 살아가고자 하는 등장인물들의 생활 방식은 미래가 불안한 현 한국 사회에서 합리적이라고 간주되는 공동체 방식과 유사하였다. 이에 따라, 영화가 비판하고자 하였던 자본주의의 역설과 ‘영탁’의 극단적인 폭력성은 강력한 질서를 추구하고자 하는 정동을 강화하였고, 이러한 영화 내 체제에 대항하는 ‘명화’의 모습은 불안의 정동을 강화하였다. 영화가 리듬을 형성하는 과정을 분석한 결과, 영탁을 필두로 한 황궁 아파트만의 일상의 리듬은 동시대의 한국 사회가 열망하는 일상의 리듬과 맞닿아 있었고, 영화는 도덕성과 연대를 지향하는 명화보다 황궁 아파트의 질서를 상대적으로 조화리듬적으로 작동하도록 조직하였다. 이에 따라, 영탁을 통해 긴장감을 유발하고자 했던 영화의 서사적, 연출적 장치들은 명화를 영화 내의 조화리듬성인 영탁의 체제에 균열을 발생시키는 부정리듬성의 주축으로 배치하는 역효과가 나타났다. 결과적으로 영화의 메시지 전달자가 명화임에도 불구하고, 명화로 인해 동시대의 한국 사회에 자리한 불안과 강력한 질서 추구의 정동을 강화하게 되었고, 명화를 통한 사회 비판적인 메시지들은 감각적으로 충돌하고 있다는 점을 본 연구를 통해 확인할 수 있었다.
