Despite unprecedented quantitative growth, the contemporary Korean church faces a severe qualitative crisis caused by the secularization of the pulpit and theological poverty. This study diagnoses that this crisis stems from the loss of Theocentrism, the prevalence of shamanistic faith (seeking secular blessings), and the dismantling of preaching structures. To seek theological and practical alternatives, this paper examines Puritan preaching of the 16th and 17th centuries, widely regarded as the golden age of preaching, with a specific focus on the homiletics of William Perkins. Puritan preaching was established on the firm theological foundation of God's absolute sovereignty and the absolute authority of the Bible. In particular, the structure of 'Text-Doctrine-Application' formulated by Perkins was not merely a form but an essential methodology designed to effectively convey biblical truth and induce conversion and sanctification in the audience. This study proposes three measures to apply the principles of Puritan preaching to the modern Korean pulpit. First, the restoration of 'Text-Driven Preaching' based on thorough exegesis, excluding the preacher's subjectivity. Second, a shift towards 'Holistic Preaching' that encompasses emotion and will, going beyond mere intellectual delivery. Third, the actualization of 'Life-Changing Application' that emphasizes ethical practice and communal responsibility, transcending personal comfort. In conclusion, this study argues that the heritage of Puritan preaching is not a relic of the past but a timely theological framework capable of restoring spiritual authority and vitality to the 21st-century Korean church pulpit.

오늘날 한국교회는 유례없는 양적 성장을 경험했음에도 불구하고, 강단의 세속화와 신학적 빈곤으로 인한 심각한 질적 위기에 직면해 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 강단의 위기가 하나님 중심성(Theocentrism)의 상실과 기복적 신앙관, 그리고 설교 구조의 해체에서 기인한다고 진단한다. 이에 대한 신학적이고 실천적인 대안을 모색하기 위해, 본고는 설교의 황금기였던 16~17세기 청교도 설교, 특히 윌리엄 퍼킨스(William Perkins)의 설교론을 고찰하였다. 청교도 설교는 하나님의 절대 주권과 성경의 완전한 권위라는 확고한 신학적 토대 위에서 수행되었다. 특히 퍼킨스가 정립한 ‘본문(Text)-교리(Doctrine)-적용(Application)’의 구조는 단순한 형식이 아니라, 성경의 진리를 효과적으로 전달하여 청중의 회심과 성화를 이끌어내기 위한 필연적 방법론이었다. 본 연구는 청교도 설교의 원리를 현대 한국교회 강단에 적용하기 위해 세 가지 방안을 제시한다. 첫째, 설교자의 주관을 배제하고 철저한 주해에 기초한 ‘본문이 이끄는 설교(Text-Driven Preaching)’의 회복이다. 둘째, 지성에 머무르는 설교를 넘어 정서와 의지를 포함하는 ‘전인격적 설교(Holistic Preaching)’로의 전환이다. 셋째, 개인적 위로에 그치지 않고 윤리적 실천과 공동체적 책임을 강조하는 ‘삶을 변화시키는 적용’의 구체화이다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 청교도 설교의 유산이 과거의 유물이 아니라, 21세기 한국교회 강단의 영적 권위와 생명력을 회복시킬 수 있는 시의적절한 신학적 준거틀임을 논증한다.
