From a Reformed perspective, preaching itself is the Word of God. The Reformers’ conviction that the preacher’s proclamation is not merely a declaration about the Word of God but the very Word of God demands from preachers both rigorous theological reflection on preaching and a profound sense of responsibility in its actual proclamation. In particular, since Scripture is the redemptive-historical revelation that unveils Jesus Christ, the preacher must faithfully reveal Christ, who is the substance of the gospel disclosed in Scripture. The central question of this study is: What are the hermeneutical and homiletical contributions of Edmund P. Clowney’s (1917–2005) biblical-theological method to Reformed preachers who seek to proclaim Christ-centered sermons? This research aims to demonstrate that Clowney’s Christ-centered preaching, established from a biblical-theological perspective, provides significant theological and practical benefits for preachers who desire to preach Christ in accordance with the Reformed tradition.

개혁주의적 관점에서 볼 때 설교는 곧 하나님의 말씀이다. 설교자의 선포가 하나님의 말씀에 대한 대언에 그치지 않고, 하나님의 말씀 그 자체라는 종교개혁자들의 생각은 설교자에게 설교에 대한 엄밀한 신학적 사유와 더불어 실제적 선포의 책임성을 요청한다. 특히 성경이 예수 그리스도를 드러내는 구속사적 계시라는 점에서, 설교자는 성경에 계시된 복음의 실체인 그리스도를 충실히 드러내야 한다. 이에 따라 에드먼드 클라우니(Edmund Clowney, 1917-2005)의 『설교와 성경신학』을 중심으로 고찰하는 본 논문의 핵심질문은 “성경신학적 방법론이 그리스도 중심적 설교를 하고자 하는 개혁주의 설교자에게 제공하는 해석학적이고, 설교학적인 기여는 무엇인가?”에 대 것이다. 본 연구는 클라우니가 성경신학적 관점에서 정립한 그리스도 중심적 설교가 개혁주의에 입각해서 그리스도 중심적 설교를 하려는 설교자들에게 신학적으로 또한 실제적으로 상당한 효과를 주는 데 기여할 것이다.
