Objective : This study aimed to provide basic data for occupational therapy intervention programs to prevent social isolation through holistic rehabilitation of brain injury patients by identifying the degree of depression and anxiety experienced by brain injury patients and the effect of these psychological factors on social participation. Methods : From December 2024 to August 2025, a direct survey was conducted on 124 brain injury patients, and based on the data obtained, descriptive statistics of frequency analysis were applied to the general characteristics of the subjects, and independent sample t-test and one-way ANOVA were applied to compare social participation according to the general characteristics of brain injury patients. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to find out the correlation between depression, anxiety, and social participation in brain injury patients, and the effects of depression and anxiety on social participation in brain injury patients were analyzed by applying multiple regression analysis. Results : The results of this study were as follow: First, in the comparison of social participation according to the general characteristics of brain injury patients, there were significant differences in brain injury type (p=.001), rehabilitation period (p=.000), and economic level (p=.000), and there were some differences in gender, age, and educational background, but there were no significant differences. Second, in the comparison of the correlation between depression and anxiety and social participation in brain injury patients, there was a significant negative (-) correlation between depression and social participation, and anxiety and social participation. Third, both depression and anxiety were found to have a significant difference on the effect of psychological variables of brain injury patients on social participation. Conclusion : This study was conducted to investigate the effect of depression and anxiety, which are psychological variables of brain injury patients, on social participation. It was confirmed that depression and anxiety experienced by brain injury patients had a significant difference on the degree of social participation. Specifically, it was found that the lower the degree of depression and anxiety, the more active the patients’ social interaction and community return.

목적 : 본 연구는 뇌손상 환자에게서 발현되는 우울 및 불안의 정도를 파악하고, 이러한 심리적 변인이 사회참여에 미치는 영향을 규명하여 뇌손상 환자의 전인적 재활을 통한 사회적 고립을 예방하는 작업치료 중재 프로그램의 기 초 자료를 제공하고자 한다. 연구방법 : 2024년 12월부터 2025년 8월까지 124명의 뇌손상 환자를 대상으로 직접 설문을 실시하였고 획득한 자료를 바탕으로 대상자의 일반적 특성은 빈도분석의 기술통계를 적용하였고 뇌손상 환자의 일반적 특성에 따른 사회참여 비교는 독립표본 t-검정과 일원배치분산분석(ANOVA)을 적용하였다. 뇌손상 환자의 우울, 불안, 사회참여의 상관 관계를 알아보기 위해서 피어슨(Pearson) 상관분석을 실시하였고 뇌손상환자의 우울, 불안이 사회참여에 미치는 영 향은 다중회귀분석(Multiple regression analysis)을 적용하여 분석하였다. 결과 : 본 연구의 결과는 첫째, 뇌손상 환자의 일반적 특성에 따른 사회참여의 비교에서는 뇌손상 유형(p=.001), 재활 기간(p=.000), 경제적 수준(p=.000)에서 유의미한 차이가 있었고 성별, 연령, 학력 수준에서는 다소 차이가 있었지만 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 둘째, 뇌손상 환자의 우울과 불안, 사회참여의 상관성 비교에서는 우울과 사회참여, 불안과 사회참여에서 유의미한 부(-)적 상관성이 있었다. 셋째, 뇌손상 환자의 심리적 변인이 사회참여에 미치는 영향에서 우울과 불안이 모두 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 결론 : 본 연구는 뇌손상 환자의 심리적 변인이 사회참여에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 수행되었고 뇌손상 환자가 경험 하는 심리적 변인인 우울과 불안이 사회참여 활동 정도에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다. 구체적으로 우울과 불안의 정도가 낮을수록 환자들의 사회적 상호작용 및 지역사회 복귀가 활발해지는 경향이 나타난다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
