This study explored the future direction of Narcotics Anonymous (NA) in Korea, based on its limitations. To this end, we interviewed 14 recovering drug addicts and analyzed the data using a consensual qualitative research method. The results identified five areas and 14 categories for future development of NA in Korea. First, recovering individuals suggested structural improvements to NA, including structural independence through minimizing conflicts of interest and revitalizing open meetings. Second, recovering individuals suggested increasing the number of recovering individuals, exploring ways to promote NA within the community, integrating and supporting domestic groups, embracing diverse audiences, and reducing judgment and stigma. Third, recovering individuals reported a need for a flexible 12-step approach and for training 12-step professionals. Fourth, recovering individuals discussed increasing the number of long-term recovering individuals, easing sponsorship criteria, separating sponsors from religious affiliations, and fostering female sponsors. Fifth, recovering individuals emphasized the need for diverse volunteer opportunities and a more structured volunteer hierarchy. The significance and limitations of this study were proposed.

본 연구에서는 한국 익명의 약물중독자들(NA)이 가진 한계에 기반 해 단체가 나아갈 향후 발전 방향성에 대해 탐색했다. 이를 위해 마약류 중독 회복자 14명을 인터뷰하고 합의적 질 적 연구방법으로 자료를 분석했다. 그 결과, 한국 NA의 향후 발전 방안에 대한 의견으로 5개 의 영역과 14개의 범주가 도출되었다. 연구 결과를 살펴보면 첫째, 회복자들은 한국 NA의 구 조적 개선점에 대해 이해관계의 최소화를 통한 구조적 독립, 공개 모임의 활성화를 제안했다. 둘째, 회복자들은 NA 모임을 위해 회복자 수의 증가, 지역사회 내 NA 홍보 방법 모색, 국내 모임 간 통합 및 지원, 다양한 대상 포용, 판단 및 낙인 지양에 대해 제시했다. 셋째, 회복자 들은 12단계에 대한 유연한 접근과 12단계 전문가 양성이 필요하다 보고했다. 넷째, 회복자 들은 후원자 양성을 위한 장기 회복자 수의 증가, 후원자 기준에서 종교와의 분리, 여성 후원 자 양성에 대해 논의했다. 다섯째, 회복자들은 다양한 봉사 기회를 제공하고 봉사 직렬이 체 계화되어야 함을 강조했다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의 및 제한점을 제안했다.
