This study examines the current status and characteristics of Catholic cultural heritage designated and registered as National Heritage in Korea and explores future directions for their designation and registration. As of November 30, 2025, Catholic cultural heritage accounts for 110 items out of a total of 15,717 National Heritage items in Korea. These consist of 10 Historic Sites, 7 City/Province Tangible Cultural Heritages, 20 City/ Province Monuments, 11 Cultural Heritage Materials, 52 State-Registered Cultural Heritages, and 10 City/Province Registered Cultural Heritages. Analysis by period shows that 12 items date back to the Joseon Dynasty, 17 to the Port-Opening Period, 37 to the Japanese Colonial Period, and 44 to the Contemporary Era. Geographically, Gangwon-do holds the highest number with 16 items, followed by Chungcheongnamdo and Jeollabuk-do (15 each), Gyeonggi-do (12), and Seoul (9). Regarding ownership, 105 out of 110 items are owned and managed by Catholic institutions. The directions for designating and registering Catholic cultural heritage as National Heritage can be summarized as follows: First, Catholic cultural heritage designated and registered as National Heritage is biased toward architectural structures. Only five cases include church books, documents, or artworks. Therefore, the Catholic Church must work to increase the designation and registration of movable cultural heritage. Second, all 110 items are tangible cultural heritage, with zero instances of intangible cultural heritage. The Church should seek the designation and registration of intangible cultural heritage, such as Catholic Gasa and Yeon-do. Third, the Catholic Church must cooperate in the preservation of Catholic cultural heritage owned by individuals or non-religious institutions and provide active support for their designation and registration as National Heritage. Fourth, the Catholic Church should actively promote Catholic cultural heritages, designated and registered as national heritage.

이 논문은 한국 국가유산에 지정·등록된 천주교 문화유산의 현황과 특 징을 검토하고 천주교 문화유산의 국가유산 지정·등록 방향을 모색한 것 이다. 2025년 11월 30일 현재, 한국 국가유산 15,717건 중에서 천주교 문 화유산은 110건이다. 사적은 10건, 시·도유형문화유산은 7건, 시·도기념 물은 20건, 문화유산자료는 11건, 국가등록문화유산은 52건, 시·도등록 문화유산은 10건이다. 천주교 문화유산의 건립 및 제작 시기를 분석하면, 조선시대 12건, 개항기 17건, 일제강점기 37건, 현대 44건이다. 천주교 문화유산을 지역별 로 분류하면, 강원도가 16건으로 가장 많고, 충청남도와 전라북도가 각각 15건, 경기도가 12건, 서울이 9건 순이다. 천주교 문화유산의 소유자를 분 석한 결과, 5건을 제외한 105건은 천주교 기관이 소유·관리하는 것으로 확인된다. 천주교 문화유산의 국가유산 지정·등록 방향을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국가유산으로 지정·등록된 천주교 문화유산은 건축물에 편중되어 있고, 교회 서적과 문서, 교회 미술품 등은 5건에 불과하다. 따라서 천주교회는 동산문화유산의 국가유산 지정·등록을 늘려야 한다. 둘째, 110건은 모두 유형문화유산이고, 무형문화유산은 1건도 없다. 천주교회는 천주가사, 연도 등과 같은 무형문화유산의 국가유산 지정·등록을 모색해야 한다. 셋째, 천주교회는 개인이나 비(非)교회 기관이 소유한 천주교 문화유산의 보존을 위해 협력해야 하고, 그 문화유산의 국가유산 지정·등록을 지원해야 한다. 넷째, 천주교회는 국가유산으로 지정·등록된 국가유산들을 적극적으로 알려야 한다.
