This study analyzes language generation by ChatGPT through Martin Heidegger’s concepts of Verfallenheit—idle talk (Gerede), curiosity (Neugier), and ambiguity (Zweideutigkeit). It argues that human–AI interaction does not demonstrate machine understanding but technologically reproduces inauthentic structures intrinsic to the human linguistic existence. Through a conceptual and hermeneutic analysis of actual ChatGPT responses, the study shows how produced patterns of averaging, contextual drift, and deferral correspond to Heidegger’s account of fallenness. Drawing on speech-act theory and performativity, it explains how users come to experience AI output as competent responses and addresses AI as a quasi-other despite an absence of understanding. The study concludes that ChatGPT functions as a relational existential simulator through which users reflexively re-encounter the structural conditions of their own linguistic existence.

본 연구는 ChatGPT를 인간 언어에 내재한 비본래적 실존 양태를 가시화하는 관계적 실존 시뮬레이터로 규정하고, 생성형 인 공지능 ChatGPT의 언어 생성 및 응답 구조를 하이데거의 퇴락성(Verfallenheit)—잡담, 호기심, 애매함—개념을 통해 분석한 다. 본 연구의 핵심 주장은 AI와의 언어적 상호작용이 기계의 이해 능력을 드러내는 것이 아니라, 인간 언어에 내재된 비본래 적 실존 구조가 기술적 매개를 통해 반복·재현된다는 점에 있다. 실제 ChatGPT의 응답 사례를 개념적·해석학적으로 분석한 결과, 평균화, 맥락 이탈, 판단 유예의 언어적 패턴이 퇴락성의 구조와 긴밀히 상응함을 확인하였다. 또한 발화행위 이론과 수행성 논의를 통해, 이해 능력이 결여된 상태에서도 사용자가 AI의 언어를 ‘응답’으로 경험하며 이를 준-타자로 구성하게 되는 조건을 이론적으로 설명한다.
