This study examines the characteristics and significance of art education in Korea during the 1970s1980s through a life-history analysis of Professor Kim Jung. It explores his concrete educational experiences and scholarly achievements, and evaluates their impact on the formation and meaning of modern Korean art education. After studying in Germany, Professor Kim translated seminal Western European works on art education and creativity into Korean, thereby introducing contemporary European pedagogical perspectives to Korea. Later, while teaching at university, he established a professional academic society dedicated to art education at a time when systematic structure in the field was lacking, thus fostering an academic culture around art education. By integrating trends from German art education, he conducted research that emphasized creativity enhancement and multicultural communication in art education. Despite a challenging environment, his persistent, interest-driven work contributed to the advancement of modern art education in Korea. The study finds that the significance of Korean art education in the 1970s1980s lies in three developments: the adoption of creativity-centered art education, the potential for multicultural communication through art education, and the establishment of a professional scholarly community which nurtured a research culture.

본 연구는 김정 교수의 생애사 연구를 통하여 1970~80년대 미술교육의 창의성 담론과 다문화 소통에 대하여 고찰하고자 하였다. 구체적인 교육 경험과 연구 업적을 살펴 보고, 한국 근대기 미술교육의 성립과 의의에 대하여 고찰하였다. 김정 교수는 독일 유 학 후 서구 유럽 미술교육의 현황과 창의성에 관한 석학들의 저서를 번역하여 국내에 소개하였다. 이후 대학교에서 후학을 가르치며, 미술교육에 대한 체계가 미흡하던 당 시 미술교육 관련 전문 학회를 창립하여 학문적 풍토를 조성하였다. 또한 독일 미술교 육의 동향을 융합하여 창의성 신장과 다문화 소통을 중시하는 미술교육에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 척박한 상황 속에서도 자신의 관심사에 맞는 연구를 지속함으로써 근대기 미술교육을 진일보하게 하였다. 연구 결과, 1970~80년대 미술교육의 의의로는 창의성 중심 미술교육의 도입, 미술교육을 통한 다문화 소통의 가능성, 전문 학회 창립을 통한 연구 풍토 조성이 도출되었다. 이는 한국 미술교육에 국외의 동향을 접목하여 국경 없는 세계와 탈경계적인 현대사회를 반영하는 다문화 미술교육에 중요한 시사점을 제시 한다.
