This study investigates how intercultural contact relates to multicultural competence in higher education, focusing on the mediating role of educational satisfaction. Using survey data from 137 students in the CAMPUS Asia Plus program, the study employs descriptive statistics, t-tests, analysis of variance, and mediation analysis. The findings show that, despite below-average levels of intercultural contact, students reported generally positive perceptions of educational satisfaction and multicultural competence. Perceptions of the three variables also differed significantly across background characteristics. In addition, intercultural contact had no significant direct effect on multicultural competence, whereas educational satisfaction fully mediated this association. The results highlight that the value of intercultural contact lies not simply in its occurrence, but in the extent to which it is accompanied by satisfying educational experiences. These findings offer practical implications for the design of international exchange programs in higher education.

본 연구는 고등교육 수준에서 학생들의 문화 간 접촉 수준과 교육 만족도, 다문화 역 량 간 영향관계를 밝히고, 교육 만족도의 매개효과를 확인할 목적으로 수행되었다. 이 를 위해 CAMPUS Asia Plus 프로그램의 참여학생 137명 응답자료를 토대로, 기술통계, t-검정 및 분산분석, 매개효과 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 학생이 경험한 문화 간 접촉 수준은 보통 이하였으나, 교육 만족도와 다문화 역량에 대한 인식은 상당히 긍 정적이었다. 둘째, 세 변인에 대한 학생 인식은 배경변인에 따라 유의한 차이가 나타났 다. 셋째, 문화 간 접촉이 다문화 역량 향상에 미치는 직접효과는 유의하지 않았지만, 교육 만족도의 완전 매개효과가 확인되었다. 본 연구는 고등교육 단계에서 학생들의 문화 간 접촉은 교육 만족도 제고를 통해 다문화 역량 강화로 이어질 수 있다는 점에서 교육 만족도의 중요성을 밝힌 데 의의가 있다. 연구결과를 토대로 대학의 국제 교류 프 로그램 개선에 대한 정책적 시사점과 연구 제한점을 극복하기 위한 후속연구를 제안하였다.
