This study was conducted to examine the effects of switch-adapted activated toys on the play activities of individuals with severe disabilities. The subjects were 18 severely disabled individuals with complex disabilities due to brain lesions. They were provided with modified toys to be operated by a special switch for use in play activities over 5-months. The effects were evaluated using a self-report questionnaire, modified from the Korean Test of Playfulness(K-ToP) and the Psychosocial Impact of Assistive Devices Scale(PIADS). The results showed a statistically significant improvement in playfulness following the switch-adapted intervention, along with positive psychosocial changes. These findings suggest the potential of assistive technology strategies to enhance play accessibility for individuals with severe disabilities and provide useful evidence for the development of future community-based services and intervention programs. Future studies are needed to verify the effects of the intervention more rigorously through larger sample sizes and comparative group designs, and to include various variables related to play performance.
