Purpose : The goal of this research is to identify the determinants of airport passenger demand in line with long-distance and short-distance air routes. The research questions are as follows. 1) How much growth in population and economic scale would be needed to open long-distance air routes within regional areas? 2) How does change in passenger demand after the integration of regional cities with high service demand levels and an upgrading of their economic scale? Research design, data, methodology : A panel gravity model was adopted to analyze the determinants of airport passenger demand using the Korean case with the Pusan airport, Taegu airport, and Incheon airport as the locations. Results : The results demonstrated that the determinants of airport passenger demand are GDP per capita and population. The r-square of the current scenario model and that after the integration of the regional cities scenario model changed from 0.600 to 0.605. Conclusions : This finding indicates that the passenger production effect could be useful if the integration of regional cities could be done. Following the long-distance airline route model, GDP, distance, and population are found to be the determinants of airport passenger demand.

이 연구의 목적은 장거리 및 단거리 항공 노선에 따른 공항 여객 수요의 결정 요인을 파악하는 것이다. 연구 질문은 다음과 같다. 1) 지역 내 장거리 항공 노선을 개설하기 위해서는 인구와 경제 규모가 얼마나 증가해야 하는가? 2) 서비스 수요가 높은 지방 도시들이 통합되고 경제 규모가 증가한 후 여객 수요는 어떻게 변화하는가? 이 연구에서는 패널 중력 모형을 적용하여 김해공항, 대구공항, 인천공항의 공항 여객 수요 결정 요인을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 공항 여 객 수요 결정 요인은 1인당 GDP와 인구인 것으로 나타났다. 현재 시나리오 모형과 메가시티 시나리오 모형을 비교하면 R2가 0.600에서 0.605로 소폭 변화하는 것으로 지방 광역 메가시티 정책은 공항 활성화에 도움이 되는 정책으로 나타났다. 이는 지방 도시를 통합할 경우 여객 증대 효과가 있음을 시사한다. 장거리 항공 노선 모형 분석 결과, GDP, 공한 간 거리, 인구가 공항 여객 수요 결정 요인으로 나타났다.
