This article offers a Reformed comparative-theological reading of the Islamic Hajj through Herman Bavinck’s soteriological grammar of grace prior to merit and divine condescension prior to human ascent. Using the concept of double listening, it takes the Hajj’s moral claims on their own terms while integrating theological evaluation into the description. The rite is traced in three movements—threshold (obligation and capacity), liminality (ihram’s disciplined transition), and convergence (culmination at Mecca)—and read through a threefold lens of qualified affirmation under general revelation, diagnostic critique of merit-oriented practical logic, and a self- reflexive mirror for Christian works-based assurance. The study affirms the Hajj’s penitential and communal depth yet argues that, in practice, it can link nearness to God with graded human ascent. Reformed theology, by contrast, locates assurance in God’s sovereign initiative in Christ, received by faith and expressed in grateful obedience. In Korea’s pluralizing society, this framework supports interreligious engagement with confessional clarity and relational humility.

본 논문은 헤르만 바빙크의 구원론(공로에 앞선 은혜, 상승에 앞선 낮 아지심)에 비추어 이슬람 하즈를 개혁파 비교신학으로 읽는다. ‘이중 경청’ 으로 하즈의 도덕·경건적 주장에 먼저 귀 기울이고, 서술과 평가를 함께 엮는 비교를 수행한다. 하즈는 문턱(의무/능력), 경계(이흐람의 규율), 수 렴(메카에서의 절정)이라는 세 의례 운동으로 분석된다. 평가의 틀은 일반 계시 아래의 제한된 긍정, 공로 지향적 실천 논리에 대한 진단, 그리고 기 독교의 행위 기반 확신을 드러내는 ‘거울’이다. 본 연구는 하즈의 참회성과 공동체성을 인정하면서도, 수행이 하나님과의 근접을 ‘자격화된 인간의 성 취’로 경험하게 할 수 있음을 논증한다. 이에 비해 개혁파 신학은 구원의 확신을 그리스도 안에서의 하나님의 주권적 은혜에 두며, 믿음과 감사의 순종으로 표현된다. 다원화되는 한국 사회에서 본 틀은 고백적 명료함과 관계적 겸손을 겸한 교회의 분별과 참여를 제안한다.
