This study examines the structural relationship among adolescents’ perceived participation rights, relational stability, and self-esteem, based on a nationally representative sample of Korean adolescents. Utilizing data from the 2023 National Survey on the Human Rights of Children and Adolescents in Korea, the study employed confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. Participation rights were assessed across three domains: home, school, and community. Relational stability was conceptualized as emotional security in relationships with parents, teachers, and peers. Self-esteem was measured through items reflecting positive self-perception. The results indicate that perceived participation rights had a significant positive effect on both relational stability and self-esteem. However, relational stability did not significantly mediate the relationship between participation rights and self-esteem. These findings underscore the importance of ensuring adolescents’ meaningful participation as a direct contributor to psychological wellbeing, highlighting the need for rights-based approaches in child and youth policy and practice.
