Purpose of the Study: This study recognizes the ongoing human rights violations that persist in today’s multicultural societies, including long-standing issues such as racial discrimination, hatred, and the deprivation of freedom of religious choice. Based on ecumenical discussions on human rights, this study seeks to explore directions for Christian human rights education that can help those whose rights have been violated in multicultural contexts recover their dignity as beings created in the image of God. Research Content and Method: This study explores possible directions for ecumenical human rights education within a multicultural context through the following three components. First, the study seeks to understand the major discussions on human rights in multicultural societies, with a primary focus on the work of the World Council of Churches. Second, the study explores discussions on multicultural human rights education within the ecumenical movement to identify initial directions for ecumenical human rights education in a multicultural society. Third, drawing on the discussions within the ecumenical movement, the study proposes directions for human rights education. Conclusions and Suggestions: The directions for christian human rights education in a multicultural society are as follows. First, it is a form of human rights education that helps individuals recover the image of God. Second, it is human rights education understood as peace education that exposes and challenges structural violence. Third, it is human rights education grounded in hospitality that moves beyond the boundaries of hatred and prejudice. Fourth, it is human rights education oriented toward service in the world.

연구 목적 : 본 연구는 현재 다문화 사회에서 오래 전부터 문제가 되어 온 인종차별과 혐오, 종교선택의 자유의 박탈 같은 인권침해의 문제들이 지속되고 있는 상황을 직시한다. 에큐메니칼 운동에서의 인권에 대한 논의를 바탕으로 다문화 사회 속에서 인권이 침해 당하는 이들이 하나님의 형상으로서의 존엄성을 회복하여 ‘인간답게 살 권리’로서의 인권을 누리며 살도록 돕는 기독교 인권교육의 방향을 모색할 것이다. 연구 내용 및 방법 : 다문화 사회에서 인권을 위한 방향을 모색하기 위한 연구의 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, WCC를 중심으로 전개된 다문화 사회에서의 인권에 대한 논의를 이해하도록 한다. 둘째, 에큐메니칼 운동에서 전개된 다문화 인권교육에 대한 논의를 통해 다문화 사회에서의 에큐메니칼 인권교육의 실마리를 모색한다. 셋째, 에큐메니칼 운동에서의 논의를 바탕으로 인권교육의 방향을 제시한다. 결론 및 제언 : 다문화 사회에서 에큐메니칼 운동에 기초한 인권교육의 방향은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 하나님의 형상을 회복하도록 돕는 인권교육이다. 둘째, 구조적 폭력을 극복하는 평화교육으로서의 인권교육이다. 셋째, 혐오와 편견의 경계를 넘어선 환대 교육으로서의 인권교육이다. 넷째, 세상 속에서 섬김 교육으로서의 인권교육이다.
