This study analyzed the effect of parental neglect on school life adaptation for multicultural youth, and examined whether social withdrawal has a mediating effect in this process. To this end, the relationship between parental neglect, social withdrawal, and school life adaptation was empirically analyzed through SPSS 25.0 and Process Macro V4.2 Model 4, using data from 1842 second graders in middle school, which is the second and fifth year of the Multicultural Youth Panel Survey (MAPS) of the Korea Youth Policy Institute. As a result of the analysis, it was found that parental neglect increased social withdrawal, and social withdrawal hindered school life adaptation, and it was confirmed that social withdrawal partially mediated the relationship between parental neglect and school life adaptation. This study suggests that understanding and approaching social withdrawal as well as parental neglect are important when intervening to support the adaptation of multicultural youth.

본 연구는 다문화청소년을 대상으로 부모방임이 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향 을 분석하고, 이 과정에서 사회적 위축이 매개효과를 가지는지를 검토하였다. 이를 위해 한국청소년정책연구원의 다문화청소년패널조사(MAPS) 2기 5차년도 대상인 중학교 2학년 1842명의 자료를 활용하여 SPSS 25.0과 Process Macro V4.2 Model 4를 통해 부모방임, 사회적 위축, 학교생활적응 간의 관계를 실증적 으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 부모방임은 사회적 위축을 증가시키고, 사회적 위 축은 학교생활적응을 저해하는 것으로 나타났으며, 사회적 위축은 부모방임과 학교생활적응 간의 관계를 부분매개하는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구는 다문화 청소년의 적응을 지원하기 위한 개입 시 부모방임뿐 아니라 사회적 위축에 대 한 이해와 접근이 중요함을 시사한다.
