This study explored the relationships among deception, attachment, and self-conscious emotions (guilt and shame) in romantic relationships. First, differences in the levels of self-conscious emotions were examined according to types of deception (Falsification, concealment, and equivocation). Second, factors influencing self-conscious emotions were investigated, focusing on communication frequency, deception use, and attachment orientations. Finally, the moderating roles of attachment styles (anxious attachment and avoidant attachment) in the relationship between deception use and self-conscious emotions were examined. To achieve these goals, an online survey was conducted with 325 individuals (162 men and 163 women) who had been in a romantic relationship for at least six months. Participants were selected using a stratified sampling method with equal allocation by gender and age group. The results revealed several key findings. First, significant differences in levels of self-conscious emotions were found across types of deception, with concealment eliciting the highest levels of self-conscious emotions, followed by equivocation and fabrication. Second, face-to-face interaction frequency, deception use, anxious attachment, and avoidant attachment were identified as significant predictors of self-conscious emotions. Specifically, higher levels of deception use and stronger anxious and avoidant attachment orientations were associated with higher levels of self-conscious emotions, whereas more frequent face-to-face interactions were associated with lower levels of self-conscious emotions. Finally, both anxious and avoidant attachment served as moderators in the relationship between deception and self-conscious emotions; however, the nature of these moderating effects differed depending on the type of self-conscious emotion (guilt vs. shame). Taken together, these findings suggest that self-conscious emotions experienced by deceivers following deception function as important relational cues for relationship repair in romantic relationships. Based on these findings, practical implications for romantic relationship communication interventions were discussed, particularly focusing on post-deception emotional responses and attachment-based communication patterns.

본 연구는 연인관계에서 기만, 애착, 자기의식 정서(죄책감, 수치심) 간의 관계를 탐색했다. 먼저, 기만 유형(허위, 은폐, 얼버무림)에 따른 자기의식 정서 수준의 차이를 살펴보았 고, 또한 자기의식 정서에 영향을 미치는 요인을 커뮤니케이션 양, 기만 사용, 애착을 중심 으로 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 기만과 자기의식 정서 간 관계에서 조절변수로서 애착(불안 애착, 회피 애착)의 역할을 탐색했다. 이를 위해 성별과 연령대를 고려한 균등배분 표본추 출 방식을 활용하여 현재 교제 기간이 6개월 이상인 325명(남자: 162명, 여자: 163명)을 대상으로 온라인 설문을 수행했다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기만의 유형에 따라 자기의식 정서 수준의 유의미한 차이가 나타났으며, 은폐, 얼버무림, 허위 순으로 자기의식 정서 수준이 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 자기의식 정서에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 대면 만남, 기만 사용, 불안 애착, 회피 애착으로 나타났다. 기만 사용과 애착 성향(불안, 회피)이 모두 높을수록 자기의식 정서 수준도 높게 나타났지만, 대면 만남이 높을수록 자기의식 정서 수준은 낮게 나타났다. 마지막으로 불안 애착, 회피 애착 모두 자기의식 정서 수준에 조절역할을 했지만, 그 형태는 자기의식 정서 형태(죄책감, 수치심)에 따라 다르게 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 연인관계에서 기만 후 정서 반응과 애착 성향 기반의 연인관계 커뮤니케이션 개입에서 고려할 수 있는 실무적 함의가 논의되었다.
