Green Review has demonstrated through its 30-year history that poetry, ecologism, and democracy are intrinsically connected. According to Kim Jong Cheol, poets are essentially ecologists, and ecologism is radical democracy. This paper examines the ‘right way for humans to live on Earth’ proposed in the founding statement of Green Review, based on poetry and democracy. It posits that the concept of the ‘poetic human,’ prominent in Kim Jong Cheol’s 1990s criticism, and the discussions of democracy that emerged in earnest after the 2000s are intrinsically linked. It clarifies the political meaning of the poetic human and the polyphonic nature of democracy, integrating these perspectives from the standpoint of literature and democracy. Kim Jong Cheol emphasizes that democracy signifies ‘the people governing themselves’ This paper examines the subjects of selfgovernance in democracy, focusing on the poetic human and the ecological class. It particularly highlights the political nature inherent in the poetic human, elucidating it through the lens of ecologica and communality. Next, it explores the principles of democracy’s self-reliance and self-governance, centered on deliberative democracy and polyphonic politics. In this process, the significance of polyphonic politics was emphasized in terms of free speech, collective decision-making, and the voice of the socially vulnerable. Finally, the connection between literature and democracy was explored based on literary perspective and ecological imagination.

『녹색평론』은 시, 생태주의, 민주주의가 동근원적으로 연결되어 있다는 것을 30년의 역사를 통해 보여주었다. 김종철에 따르면 시인은 본질적으로 생태주의자이고 생태주의 는 래디컬한 민주주의이다. 본 논문은 『녹색평론』이 창간사에서 제기한 ‘지구상에서 사 람이 삶을 영위하는 올바른 방식’을 시와 민주주의를 바탕으로 살펴보았다. 김종철의 1990년대 비평에 주로 등장하는 시적 인간 개념과 2000년대 이후에 본격적으로 등장하 는 민주주의 논의가 내재적으로 연결되어 있다고 보고, 시적 인간의 정치적인 의미와 민주주의의 다성적인 성격을 규명하였으며 이를 문학과 민주주의의 관점에서 통합해 보 았다. 김종철은 민주주의란 ‘인민이 스스로 다스린다는 것’을 의미한다고 강조한다. 본 논문 에서는 민주주의의 자기통치의 주체를 시적 인간과 생태 계급을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 특히 시적 인간이 지닌 정치성에 주목하여 이를 생태정치학(écologica)과 공동체성을 토대로 규명하였다. 다음으로 민주주의의 자립과 자치의 원리를 숙의민주주의와 다성정치 (多聲政治)를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이 과정에서 자유로운 발언권과 집단적 의사 결정, 사회적 약자의 언어라는 면에서 다성정치의 의미를 강조하였다. 마지막으로 문학적 원근 법과 생태적 상상력을 토대로 문학과 민주주의의 연결 지점을 확인해 보았다.
