Research, analysis and the dissemination of its result require accuracy and objectivity. An efficient way for transmission of information is to rely on data-based research and its transmission. It is quite natural that departments majoring in economics, commerce and businesses in the university tend to emphasize courses on empirical research analyzing data. Some students are, however, scary of data. This note reports how the author utilized the “shift-share analysis” in teaching such students about empirical research while trying to remove their phobia about data.

연구 과정과 연구 결과의 해석에는 객관성과 정확성이 요구된다. 객관성 을 확보하면서 정확하게 정보를 전달하는 효과적인 방법은 데이터에 기초한 분석과 정보전달이다. 그래서 대학의 경상계열 학과에서는 데이 터를 다루는 실증분석 과목을 매우 중요시한다. 그렇지만 데이터에 대한 막연한 거부감 혹은 두려움을 지닌 학생도 있다. 본 소고는 데이터에 대한 학생의 거부감을 줄이면서 학생들이 점차 고도화된 분석방법에 익숙해지도록 변이할당분석을 활용한 필자의 사례를 소개한다.
