This study aimed to explore the job stress recovery experiences of firefighters working in high-risk occupational environments and to establish a theoretical foundation for developing a related measurement scale. To this end, a focus group interview (FGI) was conducted with eight firefighter counselors affiliated with City G, and qualitative data were collected and analyzed using a grounded theory approach. The participants were certified counselor professionals with at least three years of field experience and academic backgrounds in nursing, psychology, or counseling psychology. Based on their in-depth understanding of actual counseling cases, both group and individual interviews were conducted. Data were analyzed through open coding and constant comparative methods to derive key components. The findings revealed that the recovery experience of firefighters is not merely a matter of rest but a dynamic process of psychological transition and readjustment. Core components of the recovery experience included meaning in work, emotional acceptance, social support, psychological detachment, cognitive restructuring, and organizational recognition and support. These results indicate that recovery is closely linked not only to personal internal factors but also to relational and organizational contexts. Participants emphasized that the recovery scale should reflect the high-risk, high-intensity nature of firefighting work, consist of self-report items, and be applicable in both individual counseling and organizational-level psychological interventions. The findings support the need for developing a structured scale to measure recovery experiences among firefighters. Such a tool can be used for self-assessment, psychological evaluation in counseling, and as a basis for organizational prevention and policy development. Furthermore, the recovery scale has the potential to contribute to improved job adaptation, job satisfaction, and ultimately, enhanced public service quality. This study holds both academic and practical significance in structuring recovery experiences in high-risk occupations and provides foundational data for future scale development. Follow-up research should include broader regional and occupational samples and conduct quantitative validation.

본 연구는 고위험 직무 환경에 놓인 소방공무원의 직무스트레스 회복경험을 탐색하 고, 이를 기반으로 회복경험 척도 개발을 위한 이론적 기초를 마련하는 것을 목적으로 한 다. 이를 위해 G시 소속 소방전문상담사 8인을 대상으로 포커스 그룹 인터뷰(Focus Group Interview; FGI)를 실시하였으며, 근거이론적 접근을 기반으로 질적 자료를 수집･ 분석하였다. 연구참여자는 간호학, 상담심리학, 심리학 전공을 가진 소방상담경력 3년 이상의 현직 소방전문상담사들로 구성되어, 소방공무원의 실제 상담 경험을 바탕으로 심층적인 논의를 제공하였다. 인터뷰는 그룹 면담과 개별 면담을 병행하였으며, 수집된 자료는 개방 코딩을 거쳐 범주화한 후 지속적 비교 분석 방법을 통해 구성요소를 도출하 였다. 연구 결과, 소방공무원의 직무스트레스 회복경험은 단순한 휴식이 아닌 심리적 전환 과 재적응의 과정으로 나타났다. 회복경험의 핵심 구성요소로는 직무의 의미성, 정서적 수용, 사회적 지지, 심리적 분리, 인지적 재구성, 조직의 인정과 지지가 도출되었다. 이는 회복이 개인 내적 요인뿐 아니라 조직적･관계적 요인과도 밀접하게 연관되어 있음을 보 여준다. 또한 연구참여자들은 회복경험 척도가 소방공무원의 고위험･고강도 직무 특성 을 반영하고, 자기보고식 문항으로 구성되어야 하며, 상담과 조직 차원의 심리적 개입에 서 활용 가능해야 한다는 점을 강조하였다. 이러한 결과는 소방공무원의 회복경험을 측정할 수 있는 척도의 개발 필요성을 뒷받 침하며, 실무 현장에서 자기 점검 도구, 상담 진단 도구, 조직의 예방 및 정책 수립 자료로 활용될 수 있음을 시사한다. 나아가 회복경험 척도는 단순히 심리적 개입에 그치지 않고, 소방공무원의 직무적응과 직무만족, 나아가 대국민 서비스의 질적 향상에도 기여할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구는 고위험 직군의 회복경험을 구조화하고 척도 개발의 기초자료를 제공했다는 점에서 학문적･실천적 의의를 지니며, 향후 후속연구에서는 다양한 지역과 직무 영역을 포함한 확대 연구와 양적 검증이 필요하다.
