This study examines whether violent behavior during adolescence, including school violence, transitions into criminal behavior in adulthood and explores the mechanisms underlying this continuity and strategies for recidivism prevention. Drawing on longitudinal and meta-analytic evidence from the United States and the United Kingdom, adolescent violent offending and victimization are shown to predict not only adult violent crime but also property and drug-related offenses, reflecting an interaction between population heterogeneity and state dependence processes. Meta-analytic findings further indicate that Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) yields the most substantial reductions in recidivism, whereas academic, vocational, and peer-based programs show limited or potentially adverse effects. Based on these findings, this study argues that CBT-based structured interventions should form a central component of school violence response systems and juvenile justice and prevention institutions in South Korea.

본 연구는 학교폭력을 포함한 청소년기 폭력이 성인 범죄로 전이되는지를 검토하 고, 이를 설명하는 주요 메커니즘과 효과적인 재범 예방 전략을 제시하는 것을 목적 으로 한다. 영미권의 장기 종단연구와 메타분석을 종합한 결과, 청소년기의 폭력 가 해 경험은 성인기의 폭력 범죄뿐 아니라 재산과 약물 범죄로까지 이어지는 강력한 위험요인임이 일관되게 확인되었다. 이러한 연속성은 기질적 요인을 강조하는 인구 이질성 관점과 누적적 불이익을 강조하는 상태의존성 관점이 상호작용한 결과로 해 석될 수 있다. 또한 재범예방 프로그램 효과에 대한 메타분석에서는 인지행동치료 (CBT)가 가장 높은 재범률 감소 효과를 보인 반면에 학업지원, 직업훈련, 또래중심 프로그램 등은 효과가 제한적이거나 역효과의 위험이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 본 연구는 국내 학교폭력 대응체계와 보호관찰소, 소년원, 청소년비행예방센터 등에 서 CBT 기반의 구조화된 개입을 정책의 중심축으로 재정립할 필요성을 제안한다.
