This paper found the moral education elements of early Buddhism and examined whether they are applicable to character education from a theoretical perspective. As a result of the study, the mind analysis, the three trainings, the 12 links of Dependent Arising, the Noble Eightfold Path, the Bosi(generosity), the idea of equality, independence, and teaching through dialogue of early Buddhism were classified as moral education elements. In terms of the curriculum, Similarities between Moral curriculum and Early Buddhist Purposes, methodologically, the possibilities of using early Buddhist practices and logical systems to improve sophistication in units with an understanding of oneself and others, emotions and life, exploring social systems in units with strong social aspects were found. In terms of class management, moral education elements of early Buddhism can be applied to mind analysis, meditation, class rule enactment, moment(isseu-based) and career education, class management basic setting, and counseling.

본 논문은 초기불교의 도덕교육적 요소를 찾아 초등인성교육에 적용 가능한지 이론적 측면에서 살펴보았다. 연구결과 초기불교의 마음 분 석, 계정혜 삼학, 12연기, 팔정도, 보시, 평등․독립사상, 대화를 통한 가르침을 도덕교육적 요소로 분류하였다. 이를 초등인성교육에 적용 시, 교육과정 면의 도덕과와 초기불교의 목적 유사성, 방법적으로 자 신․타인에 대한 이해, 감정, 생명 단원의 초기불교 수행방법․논리체 계 이용한 도덕 수업의 이론적 측면 보완 및 정교성 향상, 사회성 강 한 단원의 초기불교 원리 토대 사회제도 탐구 수업 운영 가능성을 찾 았다. 학급운영 면에서 학생 마음 분석, 명상, 학급규칙 제정, 계기 및 진로교육, 학급운영 기초설정 및 학생 상담 시 적용 가능하다.
