This study proposes a narrative death education based on Alasdair MacIntyre’s ethics to reposition the meaning of death and death education—often excluded in modern society—as a core theme of ethical education. Narrative death education understands death as a process of reflecting on human vulnerability, dependency, relationality, personal narrative, and collective memory within the story of life, thereby cultivating ethical attitudes. For practical implementation, the study suggests a four-session university-level course model on death, consisting of philosophical reflection, media-based activities, narrative composition of one’s life, and related experiential practices. This form of death education functions as a practical pedagogy that enables learners to recognize the meaning of death and relational autonomy, guiding them toward ethical maturity within the community.

본 연구는 현대 사회에서 배제되는 죽음의 의미와 죽음교육을 윤리 교육의 핵심 주제로 재위치시키고자, 매킨타이어의 윤리학에 기반한 서사적 죽음교육을 제안한다. 서사적 죽음교육은 죽음을 삶의 이야기 속에서 인간의 취약성․의존성․관계적 자율성, 그리고 개인적 서사와 공동체의 기억을 성찰하는 과정으로 이해하며, 이를 통해 윤리적 태도 를 형성하게 한다. 교육적 실천을 위해 본 연구는 4회기로 구성된 대 학생 대상 죽음수업 모델을 제시한다. 수업은 철학적 성찰, 관련 자료 활용, 삶의 서사적 구성, 실천적 활동으로 구성되었다. 이러한 죽음교 육은 학습자가 죽음의 의미와 관계적 자율성을 자각하고, 공동체 속에 서 윤리적 성숙을 이루도록 이끄는 실천적 교육으로 기능한다.
