This study seeks to redefine the role of moral education within the Integrated Social Studies, reflecting the changes in the educational field following its designation as a subject for the 2028 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT). To this end, the study compares the Integrated Social Studies under the 2022 revised curriculum and high school credit system with the previous curriculum, examining key changes in its objectives as well as the features of the CSAT sample items. The findings show that moral inquiry, emphasizing critical thinking, contributes to the cultivation of civic competencies required by Integrated Social Studies. Moreover, ethical reflection functions as an integrated cognitive and emotional element that strengthens creative problem-solving and practical competency, enabling students to recognize and respond to social issues autonomously. Finally, to address the limited utilization of moral education in integrated assessment items, the study proposes a new item format and explores the potential for qualitative improvement in the assessment system.

본 연구는 2028학년도 대입에서 통합사회가 수능 과목으로 지정됨에 따른 변화를 반영하여 통합사회 내 도덕 교과의 역할을 재조명하였다. 이를 위해 통합사회를 이전 교육과정과 비교·분석하고, 교과 목표 변 화와 수능 예시 문항의 특징을 검토하였다. 도덕 교과는 통합사회에서 비판적 사고를 중시한 도덕적 탐구를 통해 시민 역량을 기르고, 윤리 적 성찰을 통해 창의적 문제 해결력과 실천 역량을 신장시켜 학생이 사회 문제를 주체적으로 인식하고 대응하도록 돕는다. 아울러 통합형 문항에서 윤리 활용도가 다소 낮은 문제를 개선하기 위해 예시 유형 방안을 제안하였다.
