This study empirically examines the effects of digital economy development and digital inclusive finance on rural youth employment and the structure of formal employment in rural areas, using panel data from 30 provinces in China (2015–2024). Four fixed-effects panel models were constructed with rural youth employment and formal (unit-based) employment as dependent variables, and robustness was further assessed by introducing one-period lagged variables. The results consistently demonstrate the structural influence of digital transformation on rural labor markets. First, digital economy development significantly increases the employment rate of rural youth, indicating that the expansion of digital infrastructure and platform-based job opportunities substantially promotes young people’s labor market participation. Second, digital inclusive finance also has a positive impact on youth employment, confirming that improved financial accessibility serves as a key driver of entrepreneurship and non-agricultural employment among rural youth. Third, digital economy development significantly reduces the proportion of formal (unit-based) employment in rural areas, suggesting that the rise of platform labor, e-commerce, and self-employment contributes to the decline of traditional organizational employment structures. Fourth, the expansion of digital inclusive finance further accelerates the reduction of formal employment, as it promotes individual-based economic activities over organizational forms of employment. Robustness checks using lagged variables confirmed the same patterns, reaffirming that the observed effects are structural and persistent rather than short-term fluctuations. These empirical findings reveal that the digital economy and digital finance reshape rural employment through dual mechanisms increasing youth employment and decreasing formal employment and offer a new theoretical interpretation of “digital-driven employment flexibilization” within rural labor markets.

본 연구는 디지털 경제 발전과 디지털 포용금융이 농촌 청년의 고용 행동과 농촌 단위(공식) 고용구조에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위해 30개 성(省)의 패널자료 (2015~2024)를 활용하여 실증 분석을 수행하였다. 농촌 청년 고용과 단위 고용을 각각 종속변수로 설정한 네 개의 패널 고정효과 모형 및 1기 시차 변수를 적용한 견고성 검증을 통해 디지털 전환이 농촌 노동시장에 미치는 구조적 효과를 다층적으로 확인하였다. 분석 결과, 디지털 경제 발전은 농촌 청년 고용비율을 유의하게 증가시키는 것으로 나타나, 디지털 인프라 확충과 플랫폼 기반 일자리 확대가 청년층의 경제활동 참여를 실질적으로 촉진함을 보여준다. 또한, 디지털 포용금융 역 시 청년 고용을 긍정적으로 강화하여, 금융 접근성 개선이 창업 및 비농업 취업을 활성화하는 주요 동인임을 확인하였다. 디지털 경제 발전은 농촌 단위(공식) 고용 을 유의하게 감소시키는 것으로 나타났으며, 이는 플랫폼 노동·전자상거래·자영업의 확대로 인해 전통적 단위 조직 기반 고용이 축소되는 고용구조 재편 현상을 의 미한다. 마지막으로 디지털 포용금융의 확산 또한 단위 고용의 감소를 심화시키는 것으로 분석되어, 개인 단위의 경제활동 확대가 공식 고용 비중을 낮추는 방향으 로 작용함을 확인하였다. 시차 변수를 활용한 견고성 검증에서도 동일한 방향성이 유지되면서 본 연구의 결과가 구조적·지속적 영향에 기반하고 있음을 재확인하 였다. 이러한 실증 결과는 디지털 경제·디지털 금융이 농촌 고용을 ‘청년 고용 확대’와 ‘공식 고용 축소’라는 이중적 경로를 통해 재편하고 있음을 보여줌으로써, 농 촌 노동시장에서의 디지털 기반 고용유연화라는 새로운 이론적 해석을 제시한다.
