From the perspective of ESG management, there is limited research on the concept and disclosure of natural capital. In this study, we recognized the importance of natural capital and the need for research, and conducted a comparative analysis of cases of Forico in Australia and Dongwon Industries in Korea, both of which conduct natural capital disclosures. Through comparative analysis with advanced cases, Korean companies recognize the need for a systematic natural capital disclosure system, but actual implementation remains inadequate. The observed differences between the two companies demonstrate that the strategic importance of natural capital stems not only from differences in internal corporate capabilities and guidelines, but also from differences in the roles of government and financial institutions. This study, based on the results of existing case studies, structures the roles of corporations, governments, and financial institutions and presents a basic framework and strategic direction for natural capital accounting. This study suggests the roles of the government and financial institutions in strengthening risk management through the disclosure of corporate natural capital information. The government should develop natural capital information disclosure measures and establish related infrastructure, while financial institutions should clarify and utilize the concept of natural capital. Given that research on natural capital is still in its infancy and its practical applications are very limited and inadequate, this study expands natural capital research and enhances its practical applicability by proposing the need for a natural capital disclosure system and the roles of various economic participants within the institutional environment.

ESG 경영 측면에서 자연 자본 개념 및 공시 관련 연구는 제한적으로 이루어져 왔다. 본 연구에서는 자연 자본의 중요성과 연구 필요성을 인지하고, 자연 자본 공시를 하고 있는 호주 Forico 기업과 한국 동원산업의 사례를 비교 분석하였다. 선진 사례와의 비 교 분석을 통해 한국 기업들은 자연 자본 공시 체계화 관련해서는 현재 그 필요성은 인식하나, 실질적인 적용은 부족한 상황임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 기업 내부의 역량과 가이드라인뿐만 아니라, 이를 둘러싼 정부 및 금융기관의 역할에서 자연 자본 관련 다른 전략적 시사점을 도출하게 함을 알 수 있었다. 기존 사례 연구 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 자연 자본 회계의 기본 틀과 전략 적 방향성을 제시하기 위해 기업, 정부, 금융기관의 역할을 구조화하였다. 기업의 자연 자본 공시를 통한 리스크 관련 고도화에 필요한 정부의 공시 도구 개발 및 인프라 구축, 금융기관의 자연 자본 개념 도구화 등의 역할을 제시하였다. 자연 자본 연구가 매 우 제한적으로 이루어져 왔고 실무 적용은 아직 초창기인 단계에서 자연 자본 공시 체계의 도입 필요성과 제도권에서의 다양한 경제 주체의 역할을 검토한 본 연구 내용은 향후 자연 자본 연구의 확장 및 실무 적용 가능성을 기대할 수 있다.
