This study aims to empirically analyze how the perceptions of local policing among newly recruited police trainees change before and after completing the basic training curriculum. Local police officers serve as the frontline in ensuring community safety, making new recruits’ understanding and preparedness for local policing crucial for effective field operations. The study conducted pre- and post-training surveys with new recruits who recently completed the curriculum. The survey covered multiple dimensions, including prior knowledge of local policing, expectations of the training, course comprehension, anticipated field experience, responses to civil complaints and intoxicated individuals, and awareness of crime prevention. The analysis revealed statistically significant improvements across all domains, with particularly notable gains in understanding the role and practical significance of local policing. These findings suggest that the local police education component of the curriculum has a measurable effect on trainees' perceptions and highlight the need to strengthen practical and case-based training. This study provides foundational insights that can inform future improvements in police education and policy development for community-based policing.

본 연구는 최근 교육과정을 이수한 신임 경찰 교육생 집단을 대상으로 지역 경찰에 대한 인식이 교육 전ㆍ후에 어떻게 변화하는지를 실증적으로 분석하고, 지역 경찰교육의 효과성과 향후 교육 방향을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 지역 경찰은 지역 주민의 생활안전과 밀접하게 연계된 경찰 활동의 최일선으로, 신임 경찰의 지역 경찰 업무에 대한 이해와 준비는 곧 현장 치안 역량과 직결된다. 최근 교육과정을 이수한 신임 경찰 교육생 집단을 대상으로 교육 전ㆍ후 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 조사 항목은 지역 경찰 관련 사전 지식, 교육에 대한 기대감, 수업 이해도, 현장 경험 기대, 민원ㆍ주취자 대응, 범죄예방 인식 등으로 구성되었다. 분석 결과, 전반적인 항목에서 통계적으로 유의한 인식 향상이 나타났으며, 특히 지역 경찰의 역할과 실무 중요성에 대한 이해 수준에서 큰 변화가 관찰되었다. 이는 신임 경찰 교육 중 지역 경찰교육이 일정 부분 실효성을 가지며, 교육과정 내 실무 중심의 보완과 지역 밀착형 사례 중심 교육이 더욱 강화할 필요가 있음을 시사한다. 본 연구는 향후 신임 경찰 교육과정의 개선 및 지역 경찰 정책 방형 설정에 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
