This study explores the characteristics of public opinion responses toward disaster-affected countries and the discursive structure of support for humanitarian assistance by analyzing media coverage and public reactions to the February 2023 Türkiye earthquake. Using 13,336 news articles and 30,955 user comments collected from Naver News, the study applies topic modeling, text network analysis, and Word2Vec analysis. The findings show that media coverage primarily focused on the scale of damage, rescue operations, and the humanitarian response of the Korean government. In contrast, public comments emphasized empathy toward victims, the necessity of humanitarian assistance, inter-state solidarity, and historical memories framing Türkiye as a “brother nation.” Discourse surrounding the Türkiye earthquake extended beyond emotional empathy for disaster victims and became intertwined with broader contexts, including political responsibility, domestic disaster response systems, and historical solidarity rooted in the Korean War. These results suggest that historical relationships between donor and recipient countries are associated with public support for humanitarian assistance. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how humanitarian support is socially legitimized through emotional responses and historically grounded perceptions of recipient countries, thereby shaping public acceptance of humanitarian assistance policies.

본 연구는 2023년 2월 발생한 튀르키예 대지진에 대한 언론보도와 대중 여론을 텍스트 분석하여, 해외 자연재해 피해국에 대한 여론 반응의 특징과 인 도적 지원 지지 담론의 구조를 탐색하였다. 네이버 뉴스에서 13,336건의 언론 보도와 30,955개의 댓글을 수집하여 토픽모델링과 텍스트 네트워크 분석, Word2Vec 분석을 진행하였다. 연구 결과, 언론보도는 지진 피해 규모와 구조 활동, 한국 정부의 구호 활동을 중심으로 전개되었으며, 댓글에서는 피해자에 대한 공감, 구호 필요성, 국가 간 연대, 그리고 “형제의 나라”라는 역사적 기억 이 강조되는 것으로 나타났다. 튀르키예 지진에 대한 담론은 피해 사실에 대 한 정서적 공감에 그치지 않고 정치적 책임, 국내 재난 대응 체계, 한국전쟁 당시의 역사적 연대와 같은 맥락과 결합하였다. 이러한 결과는 인도적 지원을 받은 수원국과의 역사적 관계성이 인도적 지원에 대한 지지와 상관관계가 있 음을 보여준다. 이 연구는 인도적 지원의 필요성이 대중이 가진 수원국에 대 한 정서적 반응을 매개로 인도적 지원 규모와 이에 대한 사회적 수용성을 확 보하는 과정을 이해하는 데 기여한다.
