This study examines whether Generative AI presents a crisis or an opportunity for the Korean Church by analyzing the perceptions of the ‘AI Native’ generation amidst the era of AI Transformation (AX). To this end, a qualitative analysis was conducted based on an in-depth survey of 13 Christian young adults who are proficient in utilizing AI technology. The findings reveal that the AI Native generation acts as ‘critical partners’ who are adept at using AI (High-Tech) while simultaneously yearning for the essential values of the church that technology cannot replace (High-Touch). While they utilize AI as an efficient tool for academic and daily tasks, they clearly reject the possibility of AI replacing spiritual domains such as preaching and communal fellowship. The crisis they perceive lies not in the AI technology itself, but in the church’s loss of essence, such as the lack of theological depth and authentic community. Based on these findings, this study proposes ‘Utilizing High-Tech and Strengthening High-Touch’ as the future direction for the Korean Church. Specifically, it suggests tasks such as theological AI literacy education for the congregation, strengthening ministry focused on personal relationships, and leading theological discourse on the nature of humanity and the church in the AI era. In conclusion, the study suggests that the emergence of AI serves as a paradoxical opportunity for the Korean Church to restore and strengthen its lost essence.

본 연구는 인공지능 대전환(AX, AI Transformation) 시대의 도 래와 함께 한국교회 내 ‘AI 네이티브’ 세대의 인식을 분석하여, 생성형 AI가 한국교회에 위기인지 혹은 기회인지를 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 AI 기술 활용에 익숙한 기독교 청년 13명을 대상으로 심층설문조사를 실시하고 그 결과를 질적으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, AI 네이티브 세대는 AI를 능숙하게 사용하는(High-Tech) 동시에, 기 술이 대체할 수 없는 교회의 본질적 가치(High-Touch)를 강력하게 갈망하는 ‘비판적 파트너’임이 밝혀졌다. 이들은 AI를 학업과 일상의 효율적인 도구로 활용하지만, 설교와 성도의 교제와 같은 영적 영역에 서의 대체 가능성에는 선을 그었다. 오히려 이들이 체감하는 위기는 AI 기술 그 자체가 아니라, 신학적 깊이의 부재와 진정성 없는 공동체 등 교회의 본질 상실에 있었다. 이에 본 연구는 한국교회가 나아가야 할 방향으로 ‘High-Tech의 활용과 High-Touch의 강화’를 제안한 다. 구체적으로는 성도들을 위한 신학적 AI 리터러시 교육, 인격적 관계 중심의 목회 강화, 그리고 AI 시대에 인간과 교회의 본질을 묻는 신학적·윤리적 담론의 주도를 과제로 제시하였다. 결론적으로 AI의 등장은 한국교회가 잃어버린 본질을 회복하고 강화할 수 있는 역설적 인 기회임을 시사한다.
