This article analyzes the intersection where the historical and social marginal- ities of Korean-descendant rappers in Japan converge with the countercultural ethos of hip-hop, through the concept of connective marginalities. The history of hip-hop reception in Japan has, from the outset, been characterized by an am- bivalent structure of imitation premised on U.S.-centrism alongside an empha- sis on a “Japanese” identity, but was later transformed by the emergence of sub- jects embodying internal marginality. In this process, the utterances of Korean- descendant rappers deconstruct and reconfigure existing literary and intellectual discourses on Zainichi, while traversing and re-signifying boundaries and differ- ences through the language, rhythm, and performance of the street. Examples include strategies that elevate experiences of marginality into collective narratives and turn memories of oppression into resources of legitimacy; aesthetic resistance enacted through style and attitude; and attempts to detach Korean identity from a fixed ethno-national category and connect it to diverse migratory experiences. These practices constitute cultural-political interventions that expand the scope of expression beyond the confines of a single community, and represent a signifi- cant achievement in re-writing the value system of Japanese hip-hop through the genre ’s own rules of “marginality” and “authenticity.”

이 글은 ‘연결적 주변성’이라는 개념을 토대로, 일본 내 한국계 래퍼들이 지닌 역사적·사회적 주변성과 힙합의 대항문화적 정신성이 교차하는지점을 분석하였다. 일본 힙합 수용사는 초창기부터 미국 중심성을 전제로한 모방과 동시에 ‘일본적’ 정체성의 강조라는 양가적 구조를 지녔고, 이후내부 주변성을 체현한 주체들의 등장이 그 구조를 전환시켰다. 이러한 변화속에서, 한국계 래퍼들의 발화는 과거 재일론의 문학·사상 담론을 해체적으로 재구성한다는 특징을 지닌다. 과거에는 지식인 담론과 문학 텍스트를통해서만 가시화되던 목소리가, 이제는 거리의 언어·리듬·퍼포먼스를 통해 발화되며, 그 과정에서 한국계라는 위치성은 경계와 차이를 가로지르며 끊임없이 재배치·재의미화된다. 주변성의 경험을 집단적 서사로 끌어올리며 억압의 기억을 정통성의 자원으로 전환하는 전략, 기성의 지적 감각과 정치적 수사를 거부하고 스타일을통한 미학적 저항을 수행하는 방식, 그리고 ‘한국계’라는 정체성을 고정된민족적 범주에서 벗어나 현재‑여기의 다양한 이주 경험과 접속시키는 시도등이 그 예라 할 수 있다. 그것은 역사적 단절과 연속을 동시에 수행하는것으로, 발화의 범주를 특정 공동체의 울타리 밖으로 확장시키는 문화정치적실천을 내포한다. 이들 모두는 힙합이라는 장르가 요구하는 ‘주변성’과 ‘진정성’의 규칙을 통해 일본 힙합의 가치 체계를 새롭게 써 내려갔다는 점에서그 의의가 있다.
