The Namdo Uibyeong (Righteous Army, 義兵) movement unfolded primarily in the Jeollanam-do and Jeollabuk-do regions from 1895 to the early 1910s. This movement represented a spontaneous uprising by the Korean populace in resistance to Japanese invasion and colonial rule, and it intensified particularly after the signing of the Eulsa Treaty in 1905 and the implementation of Japan’s full-scale colonial policies. The Namdo Uibyeong drew participation from a wide spectrum of society, including farmers, intellectuals, and merchants, who organized military units and engaged in armed combat against Japanese forces. Through these efforts, the Namdo Uibyeong evolved beyond mere military resistance, becoming a broader social movement that advocated for the rights of the people and national independence. Research on the application and case studies of educational materials and programs centered on righteousness (Ui, 義) related to the Namdo Uibyeong enables a comprehensive evaluation of their objectives and outcomes. Such resources and programs serve to re-examine the historical significance of the Namdo Uibyeong, contribute to strengthening regional identity, and play a vital role in fostering patriotism and civic consciousness among youth. The principal implications of this study include the reinforcement of historical awareness and the spirit of the times by enhancing understanding of history and cultivating the values that defined the era. Furthermore, these educational initiatives promote intergenerational exchange and communication, facilitating dialogue and learning across generations, and contribute to community development by supporting the growth and cohesion of local communities. In addition, they enable the expansion of the Namdo Uibyeong spirit to contemporary values, extending its legacy to encompass modern ideals such as independence, justice, and peace. In conclusion, the Namdo Uibyeong righteousness education program stands as a significant educational tool that transcends traditional history education. It fosters both community and personal identity formation, promotes communal development, and advances the realization of contemporary values.

남도의병(義兵) 운동은 1895년부터 1910년대 초까지 전라남도와 전라 북도 지역을 중심으로 전개되었다. 이 운동은 일본의 침략과 식민지 지배 에 저항하려는 조선 민중의 자발적 봉기로, 1905년 을사늑약 체결과 일본 의 본격적인 식민지 정책 시행 이후 더욱 격화되었다. 남도의병에는 농민, 지식인, 상인 등 다양한 사회 계층이 참여하였으며, 이들은 군대를 조직하 고 일본군에 맞서 무장 투쟁을 전개하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 남도의병 은 단순한 군사적 저항을 넘어, 민중의 권리와 민족 독립을 위한 보다 광 범위한 사회운동으로 발전하였다. 남도의병과 관련된 의(義) 중심 교육자 료 및 프로그램의 개발과 적용에 대한 연구는 그 목적과 성과를 종합적으 로 평가할 수 있는 기회를 제공한다. 이러한 교육자료와 프로그램은 남도 의병의 역사적 의미를 재조명하고, 지역 정체성 강화에 기여하며, 특히 청 소년들에게 애국심과 시민의식을 함양하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 본 연구의 주요 시사점은 첫째, 역사에 대한 이해를 심화하고 시대정신 을 함양함으로써 역사의식과 가치를 강화한다는 점, 둘째, 세대 간 교류와 소통을 촉진하여 다양한 세대가 함께 배우고 대화할 수 있는 장을 제공한 다는 점, 셋째, 지역사회 발전에 기여하여 공동체의 성장과 결속을 도모한 다는 점, 그리고 넷째, 남도의병 정신을 자주, 정의, 평화 등 현대적 가치로 확장할 수 있다는 점이다. 이처럼 남도의병의 정신을 현대 사회의 핵심 가치와 연계함으로써, 미래지향적 교육 프로그램으로 발전시킬 수 있다. 결론적으로, 남도의병 의(義) 교육자료 개발 및 프로그램은 단순한 역사교육을 넘어, 지역사회와 개인의 정체성 형성, 공동체 발전, 그리고 현대적 가치 실현에 기여하는 중요한 교육적 수단으로 자리매김할 수 있다.
