This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the EQUIP program and its applicability as an ethical counseling approach for middle school students with recurring behavioral problems. The program was implemented over 12 sessions with three students who had histories of school violence-related disciplinary actions. Pre- and post-assessments using the Moral Disengagement Scale and the HIT (self-serving cognitive distortion) Scale, along with interviews and classroom observations, were analyzed. The results indicated reductions in both moral disengagement and cognitive distortions. Students showed improvements in empathy, self-reflection, social skills, and academic motivation. Key factors contributing to these changes included the mutual-help structure of the program and the trusting relationship with the teacher. This study provides empirical evidence that ethical counseling integrated into moral education can support students’ moral development. It also highlights the need to foster teachers’ competencies in ethical counseling within the moral education curriculum.

본 연구는 정서․행동 문제를 지닌 중학생들을 대상으로 EQUIP 프로그램을 적용하여, 그 효과성과 윤 리상담으로서의 가능성을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구자는 반복적으로 규범을 위하는 중학생 3명을 대 상으로 총 12차시의 프로그램을 운영하고, 사전‧사후 검사(도덕적 이탈 척도, 자기본위적 인지 왜곡 척도) 와 면담, 관찰 자료를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 참여 학생들은 도덕적 이탈과 인지 왜곡 수준이 감소하였으며, 공감 능력 향상, 자기 성찰, 사회적 기술 습득, 학업에 대한 태도 변화 등 긍정적인 도덕적 발달 양상을 보였다. 특히 교사와의 유대감에 바탕을 둔 학생 간의 ‘상호 도움 접근법’은 프로그램의 효과성을 제고하 는 데 중요한 역할을 하였다. 본 연구는 도덕과 교육이 윤리상담을 통해 학생 개별의 도덕성 발달을 지원 할 수 있음을 실증적으로 검토했으며, 향후 윤리상담 역량을 갖춘 도덕․윤리과 교사 양성의 필요성을 시사한다.
