This study investigated the current status of multicultural education in Korean nursing colleges. Data were collected from 187 nursing colleges that had valid nursing education accreditation as of July 2025 and posted their curricula on their websites. The analysis focused on courses with the term “multicultural,” examining their offering status, characteristics, and trends over the recent five years. Foreign language courses, which are foundational for cultural communication, were also analyzed. Out of 187 nursing colleges, 117 (62.6%) offered multicultural courses. The proportion was higher in community colleges (77.2%) than in four-year universities (51.9%). Gyeongbuk had the highest number of colleges offering multicultural subjects, 17 (14.5%), followed by Gyeonggi with 13 (11.1%), Gangwon with 10 (8.5%), and Gyeongnam with 10 (8.5%). Among 97 courses from 96 colleges, 35 (36.1%) were elective, and 72 (74.2%) were scheduled for the freshmen year or the first semester of the sophomore year. Forty-one (80.4%) of 51 subjects from 50 nursing colleges which offered curricular from 2021 to 2025 were being operated in 2021, and the number of courses for freshmen increased from 20 (39.2%) to 27 (52.9%) over the 5 years. Among 94 nursing colleges with foreign language courses, 67 (68.4%) offered them as a required subject and, 65 (97.0%) of 67 colleges offered English. Sixty-four (68.1%) of 94 colleges offered language courses as elective and 41 (64.1%) of of them included English. Multicultural education in undergraduate nursing programs is crucial for building the cultural competency needed to provide care for diverse patients. Therefore, nursing colleges that currently offer multicultural courses should transition them to a required curriculum, and those without should introduce new courses. Furthermore, it is essential to provide nursing students with diverse and balanced foreign language learning opportunities to enhance their multicultural awareness and skills.

본 연구는 국내 간호대학의 다문화 교육 현황을 파악하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었 다. 이를 위해 2025년 7월 기준 간호교육인증이 유효한 198개 간호대학 중 홈페이지에 교육과정표를 공개한 187개 학교를 대상으로 자료를 수집하였다. 다문화 교과목은 ‘다 문화’라는 용어가 포함된 교과목의 개설 현황, 운영 특성과 최근 5년간 운영 추이를 분 석하였다. 더불어 문화적 의사소통의 기반이 되는 외국어 교과목 운영 현황을 조사ㆍ 분석하였다. 총 187개 간호대학 중 117개(62.6%)가 다문화 교과목을 개설하였고, 전문 대학(77.2%)의 개설 비율이 대학(51.9%) 보다 높았다. 지역별로는 경북 17개(14.5%), 경기 13개(11.1%), 강원 10개(8.5%), 경남 10개(8.5%) 순으로 많았다. 교과목 세부 정 보가 있는 96개 간호대학의 97개 교과목 중 전공선택 과목이 35개(36.1%)로 가장 많았 고, 72개(74.2%) 교과목이 1학년부터 2학년 1학기 내에 편성되어 있었다. 최근 5년 (2021~2025년) 교육과정표를 제시한 50개 학교의 총 51개 교과목 중 41개(80.4%)가 2021년에 개설되었으며, 1학년 대상 교과목은 2021년 20개(39.2%)에서 2025년 27개 (52.9%)로 증가하였다. 외국어 교과목을 개설한 94개 간호대학 중 외국어를 필수과목 으로 개설한 학교는 67개(68.4%)였으며, 이 중 영어를 필수과목으로 운영하는 학교는 65개(97.0%)였다. 외국어를 선택과목으로 개설한 학교 64개(68.1%) 중 영어를 개설한 학교는 41개(64.1%)로 나타났다. 학부에서의 다문화 교육은 임상에서 다문화 환자를 간호하는 데 필요한 실무역량의 기초가 된다. 따라서 다문화 교과목을 운영하는 학교 는 이를 필수과목으로 전환하고, 미개설 학교는 다문화 교과목을 개설할 필요가 있다. 또한, 간호대학생에게 다양하고 균형 있는 외국어 학습의 기회와 환경을 제공하여 다 문화 역량의 기초를 제공해야 한다.
