Objectives The purpose of this study was to analyze big data on how keywords related to the Paralympic Games, disabled sports, and disabled athletes are described and expressed on Korean and American internet portal sites Methods The study targeted Korean internet portal sites Naver(naver.com) and Daum(daum.net) and the US internet portal site Google(google.com) from August 8 to September 8, 2024, ten days before and ten days after the opening of the 17th Paris Paralympic Games. Specifically, data were collected using the big data batch processing solution "TextoM," utilizing search terms such as "Paris Paralympic." Results The results of the study are followings. First, the top keywords that appeared most frequently on Naver/Daum in Korea were‘Paris,’‘Paralympic,’‘Olympic Games,’ ‘disabled person,’ and ‘Korean athlete,’ while the top keywords that appeared on Google in the US were‘paralympic,’‘game schedule,’‘opening ceremony,’ ‘medal,’ and ‘team.’ Second, while keywords such as‘Paralympic,’‘disabled person,’ ‘Paris,’‘Korean athlete,’and‘Olympic Games’were emphasized on Naver/Daum in Korea, keywords such as‘paralympic,’‘game schedule,’and‘opening ceremony’were visually emphasized on Google in the US. Lastly, in Korea's Naver/Daum, the positive keywords such as‘touching’,‘want’and‘best’were emphaized while negative keywords such as‘regrettable’,‘cry’, and ‘difficult’were emphaiszed. In contrast, in Google in U.S., positive keywords such as‘medal’,‘highlight’,and‘congraturation’were emphasized for images while negative keywords such as‘attack’,‘battle’, and‘demonstration’ were emphaised for images. Conclusions Korean portal sites still display a strong influence of the "super disabled" discourse, rooted in nationalistic and ethnic frameworks and emotional narratives. In contrast, American portal sites tend to focus on information-centric coverage of the Paralympics, tailored to the preferences and tastes of non-disabled sports events.

본 연구의 목적은 한국과 미국의 인터넷 포털사이트에서 나타나는 장애인올림픽과 장애인스포츠 및 장애인 선수와 관련한 키워드가 어떻게 묘사되고 표현되는 지를 빅데이터로 분석하여 다음과 같은 결론 을 얻었다. 첫째, 한국의 네이버/다음에서 나타난 상위키워드는‘파리’,‘패럴림픽’,‘올림픽대회’,‘장애 인’,‘한국선수’가 가장 빈도수가 높았으며, 반면, 미국 구글에서 나타난 상위 키워드는 ‘paralympic’, ‘game schedule’,‘opening ceremony’,‘medal’,‘team’ 등으로 나타났다. 둘째, 한국의 네이버/다 음은‘패럴림픽’,‘장애인’,‘파리’,‘한국선수’,‘올림픽대회’등의 키워드가 강조된 반면, 미국의 구글은 ‘paralympic’,‘game schedule’,‘opening ceremony’ 등의 키워드가 시각적으로 강조되었다. 셋째, 한 국의 네이버/다음은‘올림픽대회’,‘패럴림픽’,‘대표팀’,‘금메달’,‘개막식’,‘파리’,‘한국선수’, ‘장애인’과 같은 키워드 중심으로 의미연결망이 나타났고, 반면, 미국의 구글은‘paralympic’,‘game schedule’,‘opening ceremony’,‘world record,’‘athlete’,‘medal,’‘para’,‘olympics’와 같은 키 워드 중심으로 의미연결망이 나타났다. 넷째, 한국의 네이버/다음은 대회 및 국가정체성, 패럴림픽 종목, 한국 양궁과 카누로 군집이 형성되었으며, 반면 미국의 구글은 paralympic event and medal information, paralympic history, wheelchair basketball과 blind로 군집이 형성되었다. 다섯째, 장애인스포츠와 선수 이 미지는 한국 네이버/다음의 경우에는 긍정의 이미지로서 ‘감동이다’, ‘원하다’, ‘최고다’등의 키 워드가 강조되었고, 부정의 이미지로는‘아쉽다’, ‘울다’, ‘어렵다’등의 키워드가 강조되었다. 반면, 미국 구글의 경우에는 긍정의 이미지로서 ‘medal’, ‘highlight’, ‘congratulation’ 등의 키워드가 강 조되었고 반면, 부정의 이미지로서 ‘attack’, ‘battle’, ‘demonstration’, 등의 키워드가 강조되었다.
