This study identifies Baekro Restaurant (2022–2023), a webtoon by Yi Nai and Hwak Cheongeum, as a creative renewal of the Bari myth aligned with contemporary gender sensibilities. The research offers an examination of the work's deep narrative. Through characters such as Princess Bari and three generations of shamans-Baek-ro, Baeg-ya, and Baeg the ascetic-the webtoon deeply explores the situation of those abandoned by their blood relatives and the emotional landscape of loneliness. Furthermore, it transcends patriarchal and patrilineal family models shaped by gender discrimination, imaginatively envisioning new forms of family through mythic imagination. The theoretical framework of this analysis draws from narratology and hermeneutics. The study first conducts separate character analyses of the main protagonists, Princess Bari and the shaman Baekro. It then investigates how the notion of “family,” which embodies the work’s thematic orientation, is represented within the narrative. Finally, the study presents a holistic reading of the work’s narrative structure, focusing on its narrative strategies-particularly the layered narrative structure and the riddle plot. Through this analytical process, the study reveals that the work visualizes a model of a non-blood-related family community that coexists within a network of interdependence and mutual care. This is achieved through fantastic signifiers such as “guardian spirits” that exist through human belief, “shaman Baekro” who communicates with them, and “Princess Bari” who spiritually supports them-all brought to life through mythic imagination.

본 연구는 시대적 젠더 감수성에 맞춰 바리신화를 창 조적으로 갱신하고 있는 웹툰 사례로서 이나이, 확천금의 〈백로식당〉(2022-2023)을 꼽고, 이 작품의 서 사를 심층적으로 고찰한다. 이 웹툰은 바리공주를 비롯해 백 도사, 백야, 백로로 이어지는 무당 3대 등을 통해 혈연 가족에게 버림받은 자의 상황과 그 외로움의 정 서를 깊이 있게 다룬다. 또한 기존의 성차별적 가부장제와 부계 혈연 중심의 가족 모델을 넘어, 새로운 가족의 범주를 신화적 상상력으로 형상화한다. 작품 분석을 위한 이론적 틀은 서사론과 해석학을 기반으로 했다. 연구은 먼저 주요 등장인물인 바리공주와 만신 백로의 캐릭터 서사분석을 각각 진행하였다. 다음으로 작품의 지향 의미를 담고 있는 가족에 대한 형상과 그 서사적 재현을 탐색했다. 마지막으로 이 작품의 서사 전략인 겹서사 구조와 수수께끼 플롯을 통해 서사적 짜임새를 총체적으로 분석했다. 이러한 분석 과정을 통해 본 연구는 이 작품이 인간의 믿음으로써 존재하는 ‘수호신’, 이들과 소통하는 ‘만신 백로’, 이를 영적으로 돕는 ‘바 리공주’ 등의 환상적 기표를 통해 상호 의존과 서로 돌봄의 관계망 속에서 함께 살아가는 비혈연 가족 공동체의 형상을 신화적 상상력으로 가시화하고 있다는 것을 밝혀냈다.
