In K-pop ballads, the ‘climax’ is the point where the story and emotions of the song reach their peak, typically in the chorus. When the climax is effectively expressed, the audience becomes completely immersed in the song and experiences deep emotions. This study analyzed the melodies of K-pop ballads, which have the most typical form, to suggest music production techniques that can effectively express the climax, which is the core of K-pop music. By examining the melodies of ballads that topped terrestrial broadcasting charts over the past 10 years from 2015 to 2024, we analyzed which pitch differences were effective in the pitch distribution between the climax and the concluding note. The results showed that the public most preferred a difference of 6 degrees between the climax and concluding note, followed by a difference of 5 degrees. In creating a song, setting the climax cannot be said to be an absolute part of the song's hit, and since many factors must be well harmonized, the results of this study are not intended to present rules for setting the climax, but rather, as a way to convey the most effective emotional peak to the public in terms of the climax being the core of the song, the purpose is to provide a practical composition method through numerous examples of effective pitch differences between the climax and the ending.

K-POP 발라드에서 노래의 ‘절정(climax)’ 부분은 곡의 스토리와 감정이 정점에 달하는 부분으로, 일반적으로 노래의 후렴구에 위치하는데 절정이 효과적으로 표현되면 청중은 노래에 완전히 몰입하고 깊은 감동을 경험하게 된다. 본 연구는 K-POP 음악의 핵심에 해당하는 절정음 표현을 효과적으로 할 수 있는 음악 제작 기법을 제시하기 위해 가장 전형적인 형태를 갖고 있는 K-POP 발라드의 멜로디를 분석하였고 2015년부터 2024년 까지 최근 10년 간의 지상파 차트 1위를 차지 한 발라드 곡들의 멜로디를 조사함으로써 절정음과 마무리음과의 음정 분포에서 어떠한 음정 차이가 효과적인지를 분석해 보았다. 연구 결과, 절정음과 마무리음 이 6도 차이가 났을 때를 대중들이 가장 선호했음을 알 수 있었고 그 다음으로 5도 차이를 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 어떠한 곡을 만드는 데 있어서 절정음의 설정 이 곡의 히트에 절대적인 부분이라고 할 수는 없고 여러 요소가 잘 조화되어야 하기 때문에 본 연구 결과는 절정음 설정에 대한 법칙을 제시하려는 것이 아니라 절 정음이 곡의 핵심이라는 측면에서 대중들에게 가장 효과적인 감정의 정점을 전달하는 하나의 방법으로써 절정음과 마무리음과의 효과적인 음정 차이를 다수의 사 례를 통해 실용적인 작곡법을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
