Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) has emerged as an environmentally friendly and sustainable disinfectant that can be used in various sectors including health, agriculture, and livestock farming. This study investigated the effect of non-electrolyzed HOCl water on livestock farming, focusing on its potential benefits for cow wellbeing and overall farm management. We categorized 148 cows into three groups: a control group receiving tap water, and experimental groups 1 and 2 supplied with HOCl water as their daily drinking source for 9 and 19 months, respectively. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of HOCl water on carcass weight, meat quality, and farm hygiene. Our data revealed a significant increase in carcass weight (p < 0.001) in the HOCl water treated group compared to that in the control group. Parameters such as sirloin area, backfat thickness, marbling grade, texture grade, and maturity grade also exhibited noteworthy improvements (p < 0.001) in the cows supplied with HOCl water. Furthermore, survey data indicated improved farm barn odor, reduced cow diarrhea, improved cleanliness, and insect control associated with HOCl water use. In conclusion, our findings demonstrate the significant effects of HOCl water on cow health and nutrient adaptation, contributing to the economic efficiency of livestock farming. As a beneficial resource for enhancing livestock well-being and optimizing farm management, HOCl water offers important implications for the broader agricultural sector. Therefore, continued research and increased adoption of HOCl water in livestock practices might be needed.
