Centella asiatica L. Urban is a raw material for skin wound treatment, etc. Its effective ingredients, asiaticoside, madecasoside, asiatic acid, and madecassic acid, have the effects of anti-inflammatory and improving skin photoaging, and the abundant minerals in Jeju lava seawater are known to have an antioxidant effect that removes free radicals that cause aging. In particular, based on the research results that hydrogen water neutralizes active oxygen, increases HDL and the antioxidant enzyme SOD, and that there is a high probability that the antioxidant effect can delay the speed of skin aging, Jeju lava water was converted to hydrogen water and the antioxidant effect of Jeju native Centella asiatica extract was confirmed. In this study, Jeju native Centella asiatica, aged for 24 hours at a hydrogen dissolved rate of 2,400 ppd, showed a significant antioxidant result compared to distilled water and lava seawater. As a result of comparing ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) scavenging activity with ascorbic acid, both extracts showed concentration-dependent antioxidant activity in the DPPH radical scavenging activity experiment, but the hydrogen water centella asiatica extract showed overall higher antioxidant activity than the lava seawater centella asiatica extract. In particular, the hydrogen water centella asiatica extract showed the highest inhibition rate of 56.47% at 1000 μg/mL, showing strong antioxidant activity against DPPH radical.
