This study reinterprets the recent Korean debate on “religious–political entanglement” through the linguistic–philosophical lens of the structural gap between religious language and secular language. The legal and media controversies surrounding alleged political involvement of certain religious groups extend beyond issues of legality, revealing deeper problems of linguistic translation and semantic distortion. Focusing on Family Federation for World Peace and Unification(Unification Church) as a case study, the paper analyzes how religious discourse becomes misread or recontextualized when translated into secular legal and political language. By drawing on the linguistic and theological perspectives of Wittgenstein and Friedo Ricken, and the theories of translation between religion and secular reason by Jurgen Habermas, Charles Taylor, and David Martin, this paper demonstrates that religious language functions as symbolic, performative, and confessional language—thus cannot be fully translated into the normative grammar of secular discourse. The findings suggest that the so-called “religious–political entanglement” discourse may often arise not from actual institutional collusion but from the epistemic misreading between different linguistic forms. The study concludes by emphasizing the necessity of institutionalizing “Inter-translation” and linguistic mediation between religious and secular languages to foster a mature post-secular culture of religion–state relations in Korea.

이 논문은 최근 한국 사회에서 논란이 되고 있는 ‘정교유착’ 담론을 종교언어(religious language)와 세속언어(secular language)의 구조적 간극이라는 언어철학적 관점에서 재해석 하고자 한다. 특정 종교단체의 정치개입 여부를 둘러싼 법적·언론적 논쟁은 단순한 위법성 판단을 넘어 종교언어의 해석과 번역의 문제와 깊이 연관되어 있다. 본 연구는 세계평화통일가 정연합을 중심으로 한 최근의 특검 수사와 여론 담론을 사례로 분석하여, 종교적 언어가 세속적 법적 언어로 변환되는 과정에서 발생하는 의미왜곡과 오독의 메커니즘을 규명한다. 이를 위해 종교언어의 상징적·고백적·의례적 성격을 언어철학과 신학적 전통 속에서 고찰하 고, 일상언어 분석, 종교언어 번역이론을 통해 종교언어와 세속언어의 상호번역 가능성을 논의 하였다. 그 결과, 종교언어는 사실판단의 언어가 아닌 은유적·수행적 언어로서, 세속언어의 규범적 문법으로 완전히 번역될 수 없으며, 법적·정치적 해석 과정에서 탈맥락화될 경우 종교 자체의 왜곡과 낙인을 초래할 수 있음을 살펴보았다. 따라서 정교유착 담론은 실제 정치결탁의 문제가 아니라 언어형식 간의 불일치와 상호 오독의 결과로서도 형성될 수 있음을 지적하며, 종교와 세속의 공론장 안에서 상호번역(inter-translation) 과 언어적 이해의 제도화를 통해 성숙한 정교문화 형성이 필요함을 제안한다.
