In the excavations of Kuntillet `Ajrud, located in the southern part of the Negev region, 54 inscriptions were discovered in the 1970s. This study divided these inscriptions into four categories (alphabet inscriptions, personal name inscriptions, Yahweh inscriptions, and blessing inscriptions) and annotated representative inscriptions. The alphabet inscriptions indicate the writing style of the 9th-8th century BCE and the presence of scribes at the location where the inscriptions were discovered. The personal inscriptions reveal the facial characteristics of the northern Israelites. The Yahweh inscriptions indicate prominent religious characteristics. And finally, the blessing inscription has a specific form and tells us about the contents of the prayer for safety. Based on these explanatory results, it can be understood that Kuntillet `Ajrud contained religious contents for the safety of traders traveling long distances as a trading area of the northern Israel in the late 9th-8th century BCE.

네게브 지역 남단에 위치한 쿤틸렛 아즈루드에서 1970년대 즈에브 메쉘의 감독하에 발굴을 통하여 54편의 명문이 발견되었다. 본 연구는 이 명문을 네 가지 범주(알렙벳 명문, 인명 명문, 야웨 명문, 축복 기원문)로 나누고 각 범주의 대표적 명문을 주해하였다. 알렙벳 명문은 기원전 9세 기-8세기의 글자 형태와 명문이 발견된 장소에 서기관 활동이 있었음을 지시하고, 인명 명문은 북이스라엘인들의 인면명 특징을 알려주며, 야웨 명문은 종교적 특성이 두드러짐을 가리키고 마지막으로 축복 기원문은 특정 양식을 지니면서 안전을 기원하는 내용을 알려준다. 이러한 주해 결 과로 비록 쿤틸렛 아즈루드가 지리적으로 네게브 남단에 위치하고 있지 만 북이스라엘의 통상지역으로 기원전 9세기말-8세기경 먼 거리를 이동하 는 무역상들의 안전을 위한 종교적 내용을 담은 것으로 이해할 수 있다. 이를 통하여 9세기 말경 아람 세력의 남진에 기인하여 페니키아와의 통상 이 어렵게 되자 북이스라엘 왕국이 남쪽을 통한 무역로 개척이 필요하여 쿤틸렛 아즈루드의 요새가 건축된 것으로 해석할 수 있게 한다.
