The bird-shaped thorn(有刺利器) artifacts from the Haman and Hapcheon regions are morphologically distinct from those unearthed throughout the broader Yeongnam area, and have therefore long been classified by many scholars as variant spiked implement bird-shaped thorn(異形有刺利器). In recent years, debates concerning the terminology for The bird-shaped thorn excavated in Haman and Hapcheon have continued. In particular, focusing on their decorative features, alternative designations such as decoratively crafted The bird-shaped thorn or decorated iron-plate implements have been proposed. This study analyzes The bird-shaped thorn with attached decorative elements from Haman and designates them as the Iron-plate ritual utensil with Bird decorations(鳥形裝 鐵板儀器), further examining their function and the meaning of their inclusion as grave goods. The Iron-plate ritual utensil with Bird decorations from Haman have been found exclusively in the Ancient Tombs in Marisan Mountain cluster, indicating that this cluster functioned as the central burial grounds of the Haman region. Moreover, their deposition only in the highest-ranking tombs within the central tumuli strongly suggests that they served as prestige goods symbolizing social status. Through the analysis of these prestige goods The Iron-plate ritual utensil with Bird decorations of the central elite tombs in Haman, this study seeks to clarify the origins, functions, modes of deposition, and symbolic significance of Ara Gaya prestige artifacts. Unlike The bird-shaped thorn distributed across the Yeongnam region, which appeared in the 3rd century and persisted until the late 6th century, the Iron-plate ritual utensil with Bird decorations of the Ancient Tombs in Marisan Mountain cluster emerged in the 5th century and completely disappeared by the second quarter of the 6th century. Their material was iron-plates(鐵鋌). Beginning in the first quarter of the 5th century, large iron-plates were deposited in tombs, a practice that increased in scale during the mid to late 5th century. By the 6th century, however, as the form of the Iron-plate ritual utensil with Bird decorations shifted into elongated rectangular shapes, iron-plates ceased to be interred. This pattern suggests that iron ingots served as the raw material for producing the aIron-plate ritual utensil with Bird decorations. The aIron-plate ritual utensil with Bird decorations reflect conceptions of the afterlife, while the attachment of bells or similar devices to produce sound indicates their use in funerary rituals or shamanistic practices. Their association with large iron-plates and deposition in grand tombs during the 5th century, followed by their disappearance in the second quarter of the 6th century, parallels the rise and decline of the monumental tomb culture. Accordingly, these ritual-religious prestige goods can be regarded as symbols of Ara Gaya itself.
