The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences and perceptions of preservice elementary teachers regarding physical education (PE) practicum through the use of photovoice. Participants were preservice teachers enrolled in a science education program at a university of education located in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region, who were taking a elementary PE pedagogy course. The research procedure consisted of four stages: photo-taking, group discussions, interpretation and meaning-making, and sharing and dissemination of results. As a result, three overarching themes (learning in PE classes encompassing joy and growth, practical challenges faced in conducting PE classes, and teaching competencies and attitudes required for PE classes in practice), nine sub-themes, and 50 codes were derived. The preservice teachers’ experiences with PE, captured through photovoice, were expressed in diverse photographs and narratives, and the interpreted meanings were reconstructed through multiple discussion processes. The findings highlight the importance of teaching competencies and attitudes for effective PE instruction and demonstrate that practicum serves as an opportunity for reflection and professional growth for preservice teachers. This study suggests the need to strengthen PE teaching competencies within teacher education programs.

본 연구의 목적은 포토보이스 방법을 활용하여 초등 예비교사의 체육수업 실습 경험과 인식을 다각적으로 탐구 하는 데 있다. 연구참여자는 부산, 울산, 경남(부울경) 지역의 한 교육대학교 과학교육과에 재학 중인 예비교사들 로, 체육교과교육론 강의에 참여하였다. 연구 절차는 사진 촬영, 그룹 토론, 의미해석과 의미형성, 결과 공유 및 확산의 단계로 이루어졌다. 그 결과 3개의 대주제(즐거움과 성장으로 아우르는 배움의 체육수업, 체육수업 운영 에서 직면하는 현실적 도전, 현장에서 경험한 체육수업을 위한 교수역량과 태도), 9개의 소주제, 50개의 코드가 도출되었다. 본 연구에서 예비교사들은 포토보이스를 활용한 체육수업 경험을 다양한 사진과 서술로 표현하였 고, 여러 차례의 토론 과정을 거치며 새로운 의미로 재구성되었다. 이러한 결과는 예비교사들이 체육수업의 가치 와 실제적 의미를 다각도로 인식하는 데 기여하였다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 예비교사 교육과정에서 체육수업 역 량을 강화할 필요성을 시사한다.
