The purpose of this study was to systematically analyze research trends on the elementary school physical education specialist teacher system and to examine their changes across different periods over the past three decades. For this purpose, 58 related articles published in Korean academic journals between 1992 and 2025 were collected and categorized into three phases: the introductory period (1992–2002), the diffusion period (2003–2012), and the deepening period (2013–2025). The analysis focused on research themes, methods, and subjects. The results showed that research themes were classified into four categories: the status and perception of system operation, effect verification, exploration of field experiences, and proposals for improvement. Among these, proposals for improvement accounted for more than half of the studies, highlighting a strong orientation toward system development. In terms of research methods, quantitative surveys were dominant in the early period, but qualitative approaches such as autoethnography, narrative inquiry, and case studies gradually increased in subsequent years. Regarding research subjects, teachers accounted for over 80% of the studies, indicating a tendency to focus on their experiences and perceptions as key practitioners of the system. These findings demonstrate that research on the physical education specialist teacher system has evolved from diagnosing institutional establishment to exploring teachers’ professionalism and identity. Furthermore, the study suggests the need for methodological diversification and the inclusion of students, parents, and other stakeholders in future research. Overall, this study provides integrated insights into the research trends of the system and offers a foundation for its sustainable development and policy alternatives.

본 연구는 초등학교 체육전담제도의 도입 이후 약 30여 년간 이루어진 국내 연구의 동향을 체계적으로 분석하여 시 기별 변화 양상을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 1992년부터 2025년까지 국내 학술지에 게재된 관련 논문 58편을 수집하여 착근기(1992~2002), 확산기(2003~2012), 심화기(2013~2025)의 세 시기로 구분하고, 연구 주 제·연구 방법·연구 대상을 중심으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 연구 주제는 제도 실태 및 운영 인식, 효과 검증, 현장 경험 탐색, 개선 방안 제시의 네 가지 범주로 도출되었으며, 이 중 개선 방안 제시가 전체의 절반 이상을 차지하여 제도의 발전 지향성을 보여주었다. 연구 방법 측면에서는 초기에는 설문조사를 활용한 양적 연구가 주류를 이루었 으나, 이후에는 자문화기술지, 내러티브 탐구, 사례연구 등 다양한 질적 연구가 점진적으로 증가하였다. 연구 대상 은 교사가 80% 이상을 차지하여 제도의 실천 주체로서 교사 경험과 인식을 중점적으로 다룬 경향이 확인되었다. 이 러한 결과는 초등 체육전담제도가 제도적 정착 단계에서 출발하여 교사의 전문성·정체성 탐구로 확장되었음을 보여 주며, 향후 연구 방법의 다양화와 학생·학부모 등 연구 대상의 확대 필요성을 시사한다. 본 연구는 선행 연구의 흐 름을 종합하여 체육전담제도의 지속 가능성과 정책적 대안 마련을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하는 데 의의가 있다.
