This study analyzes how classical Japanese narratives have been transformed into media content. In particular, it compares classical narratives and media content by focusing on character images through descriptions of war and strategy in the NHK historical drama series. Focusing on the drama Yoshitsune, which is based on The Tale of the Heike (Heike Monogatari), the author attempts to examine the Images of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, the main character in the second half of Monogatari, and to understand the intention of character image formation. Minamoto no Yoshitsune is widely regarded as one of Japan’s most celebrated and legendary warriors and is particularly known for his military prowess during the Genpei War. He was considered a legend even before his passing. The Battle of Mikusa-Yama and Ichi-no-Tani, which are discussed in this paper, are the events that made Yoshitsune’s name known in history. Records of war and strategy in Gunki Monogatari provide insights into political and social changes. These narratives help understand the present and future through a re-examination of the past. In this study, the author analyzes how Heike Monogatari’s portrayal of war transformed in the drama and examines how it relates to the character narrative.

미쿠사야마 전투(三草山の戦い)와 이치노타니 전투(一ノ谷の戦い)는 헤이케(平 家) 공략의 서막전이자 일본을 대표하는 천재적 무장 미나모토노 요시쓰네(源義 経)의 이름을 역사에 드러낸 무대이다. 따라서 겐페이 쟁란(源平合戦)을 소재로 하 는 미디어라면 그 전개 및 완성도에 대한 기대가 높을 수밖에 없고, 콘텐츠 제공자 와 향유자 사이의 시각이나 관점의 차이에 따라 그 평가가 극단적으로 엇갈리기도 한다. 본고에서는 NHK 대하드라마에 묘사된 두 전투 장면의 각색에 착목하여 주 요 인물 서사와의 관계를 규명하고자 했다. 예로부터 겐페이 쟁란기 전후에서 취재한 작품이라면 크든 작든 반드시 헤이 케모노가타리(平家物語)의 영향에서 자유로울 수 없으며, 헤이케모노가타리의 서사를 이끌어가는 핵심 인물은 전반의 경우 다이라노 기요모리(平清盛), 후반의 경우 미나모토노 요시쓰네라 할 수 있다. 특히 미나모토노 요시쓰네는 생전의 화려한 공적 및 그와 대비되는 불우한 최후로 인하여 시대를 불문하고 민중의 애정 을 독차지하게 되었으며, 일본의 국민성으로까지 거론되는 ‘호간비이키(判官びい き)’ 정서의 근간으로 자리잡게 된 인물이기도 하다. 본고에서는 2005년 방영된 NHK 대하드라마 ｢요시쓰네(義経)｣를 중심으로 겐페 이 쟁란물의 원전이라 할 수 있는 헤이케모노가타리 및 기타 관련 작품에 나타 난 미쿠사야마와 이치노타니의 전투 장면의 비교 분석을 수행하고, 이를 통하여 그 서사 구조 및 인물상의 변용에 대하여 고찰해 보고자 한다.
