This study conducts an in-depth analysis of the musical characteristics of each instrument and the polyrhythmic structure in Hans Zimmer’s "Time," a representative OST from the film Inception. "Time" is structured by gradually expanding a simple, minimalist theme, creating a complex framework where various instruments maintain independent rhythms that generate tension and release. In particular, the first violins and cellos produce continuous energy through rapid eighth-note arpeggios, while the second violins, violas, and double basses form a sense of spaciousness with slower rhythms, thereby completing a multilayered rhythmic texture. The bass drum gradually enhances the dynamic intensity of the piece with its percussive rhythms. Through a detailed score analysis, this paper clarifies the specific roles and interactions of each instrument, highlighting the close relationship between musical expression and cinematic messaging. The study aims to discuss how polyrhythmic techniques contribute to emotional expression and the reinforcement of narrative structures in contemporary film music.

본 연구는 영화 *인셉션(Inception)*의 대표 OST인 한스 짐머(Hans Zimmer)의 「Time」을 대상으로, 악기 별 음악적 특징과 폴리리듬(polyrhythm) 구조를 심층 분석한다. 「Time」은 단순하고 미니멀한 테마를 점진적으로 확장하는 방식으로 구성되었으며, 다양한 악기들이 독립적인 리듬을 유지하면서 긴장과 이완을 생성하는 복합적인 구 조를 형성한다. 특히 제1바이올린과 첼로는 빠른 8분음표 아르페지오를 통해 지속적인 에너지를 만들어내고, 제2바이 올린, 비올라, 콘트라베이스는 느린 리듬을 통해 공간감을 형성하여 다층적인 리듬 질감을 완성한다. 베이스 드럼은 점진적인 타격 리듬을 통해 곡의 다이내믹 강도를 강화한다. 본 논문은 악보에 대한 세밀한 분석을 통해 각 악기의 구체적인 역할과 상호작용을 밝히고, 음악적 표현과 영화적 메시지 간의 밀접한 관계를 강조한다. 또한 폴리리듬 기 법이 현대 영화 음악에서 감정 표현과 내러티브 구조 강화에 어떻게 기여하는지를 논의하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
