<엑시트>에서 <콘크리트 유토피아>로 —팬데믹 이후 한국 재난 영화에 나타난 세계 인식의 변화에 관한 연구

- This study examines the transformation of Korean disaster films before and after the pandemic through a comparative analysis of Exit (Lee Sang-geun, 2019) and Concrete Utopia (Um Tae-hwa, 2023), and explores how these changes relate to the structural transformations of the media environment accelerated in the post-pandemic era. Exit, produced before the pandemic, presents a clear threat in the form of toxic gas dispersed by terrorists and technical-physical processes of overcoming it through rock climbing skills, thereby maintaining an optimistic worldview that presupposes the ‘legibility’ of the world and the possibility of restoring social systems even in disaster situations. In contrast, Concrete Utopia coldly depicts conflicts and exclusion among survivors in the Hwanggung Apartment complex set against the backdrop of ruined Seoul, foregrounding uncertainty, mutual distrust, and the rampage of exclusive communities, thereby revealing fundamental fractures in world perception. This transformation in disaster narratives is closely connected to changes in contemporary media conditions accelerated by the pandemic: the formation of algorithmic subjectivity, non-narrative image experiences based on short-form platforms, and the fragmentation of attention. This signifies an epistemological turn in the fundamental ways human subjects understand the world, beyond mere changes in media consumption patterns, demonstrating the structural impossibility of Fredric Jameson’s ‘cognitive mapping.’ However, Concrete Utopia also presents the possibility of alternative solidarity through the horizontal community formed in the 90-degree collapsed apartment. This suggests new ethical-political possibilities that embrace uncertainty rather than recovering certainty, showing that genuine alternative solidarity after disaster can only be pursued when the impossibility of totality is presupposed.

- 이 글은 팬데믹 전후 한국 재난 영화에 나타난 세계 인식의 변화를 <엑시트>(이상근, 2019)와 <콘크리트 유토피아>(엄태화, 2023)의 비교 분석을 통해 검토하고, 이러한 변화가 팬데믹 이후 가속화된 미디어 환경의 구조적 변화와 어떤 연관성을 지니는지 탐구한다. 팬데믹 이전에 제작된 <엑시트>는 테러리스트가 살포한 독가스라는 명확한 위협과 암벽등반 기술을 통한 기술적·물리적 극복 과정을 제시함으로써 세계의 ‘가독성(legibility)’과 재난 상황에서도 사회 시스템의 복원 가능성을 전제하는 낙관적 세계관을 유지하고 있다. 반면 폐허가 된 서울을 배경으로 황궁아파트 생존자들 간의 갈등과 배제를 냉정하게 묘사한 <콘크리트 유토피아>는 불확실성과 상호 불신, 배타적 공동체의 폭주를 전면화함으로써 세계 인식의 근본적 균열을 드러낸다. 이러한 재난 서사의 전환은 팬데믹으로 가속화된 현재의 미디어 조건 변화—알고리즘적 주체성의 형성, 숏폼 플랫폼에 기반한 비서사적 이미지 경험, 주의력의 파편화—와 긴밀히 연관되어 있다. 이는 단순한 미디어 소비 패턴의 변화를 넘어 인간 주체가 세계를 이해하는 근본적 방식의 인식론적 전회를 의미하며, 프레드릭 제임슨의 ‘인식적 지도 그리기’의 구조적 불가능성을 보여준다. 그러나 <콘크리트 유토피아>는 90도 회전하여 쓰러진 아파트에서 형성되는 수평적 공동체를 통해 대안적 연대의 가능성을 제시하기도 한다. 이는 확실성의 회복이 아닌 불확실성의 수용을 통해 새로운 윤리적·정치적 가능성을 암시하며, 재난 이후 진정한 대안적 연대는 총체성의 불가능성을 전제할 때에만 추구될 수 있음을 보여준다.

- 한국문예창작학회(The Society of Korean Literary Creative Writing)는 한국 문학의 새 지평을 열기 위해 문예창작 이론과 문예교육 이론을 연구 계발하여 문 예창작의 새로운 방향을 제시하고자 조직한 학술단체입니다. 전국 대학과 대학원 문예창작 관련학과의 전·현직 전임교수·겸임(초빙)교수· 강 사·대학원 재학 이상자 및 문예창작인들이 회원으로 활동하고 있습니다. 학회의 목적에 적극적으로 동의하는 문학 관련 단체나 문학창작 동호인도 준회원으로 참 여하고 있습니다. 연 2회 학회지를 발간해 학문적 기반을 닦고 있으며, 정기적으로 학술 세미나 와 해외 문학 심포지엄 등 학술 발표회를 개최하여 학문적 교류와 토론의 장을 넓히고 있습니다. 한편으로, 문예창작 캠프·문학기행 등의 창작교육 활동과 창작 학습 행사를 수 시로 진행하면서, 창작·창작이론·창작교육에 관한 활동의 범위를 넓히고 있습니다. 별도로, 문예창작 교육을 받은 문예창작학도들의 진로 개발을 위해 '문예교육지도 교사 자격 시험'도 운영하고 있습니다. The Society of Korean Literary Creative Writing is a pure academic association for the literary cretive writing, and was organized on November 11, 2001 for the purpose of presenting the new direction of literary creative writing by studying all the methods to activate and develop the theories of literary creative writing and its education. Our society is composed of professors or ex-professors, some invited professor, lecturers, graduate students of the dept. of literary creative writing as regular members, and the persons interested in our program as associative members. Our society holds an annual academic meeting-- literary symposium, literary creative writing seminar-- and publishes the journal of our society and our members' anthology of literary works. Added to these, our society has already started a new project to open the way for our literary juniors by providing them with a certificate as a leader and holding a forum for literary creative writing.
