This paper examines the specific characteristics of courses on the Korean economy offered at Japanese universities, which have a long history of Korean studies and offer the largest number of Korean studies courses today. Rather than being confined to specific departments like history and linguistics, Korean studies courses are spread across diverse social science disciplines, including political science, economics, and sociology. First, Korean economics courses at Japanese universities are widely distributed across diverse departments, including liberal arts, economics, business administration, humanities and social sciences, international relations, and food management. Second, not only stand-alone courses on the Korean economy but also courses that include Korea as part of courses like Asian economies commonly address Korea's rapid economic growth and the process of its rapid development to the level of advanced economies. Third, while understanding the Korean economy is the primary goal of Korean economic courses at Japanese universities, a comparative analysis of the Korean economy also provides a coexisting understanding of the Japanese economy. Fourth, a characteristic of Korean economics courses in Japan is that they are opened for the purpose of reading Korean literature for the purpose of understanding the Korean economy, rather than for learning the Korean language.

이 논문에서는 오랜 한국학 역사를 가지고 있으며, 오늘날 해외 대학 중 가장 많은 한국학 강좌를 제공하고 있는 일본 대학에서 한국 경제와 관련된 강좌는 어떤 것이 있으며 그 특징은 무엇인지 살펴보았다. 일본의 한국학 강좌는 역사학과 언어학 중심의 특정 학과 체제에 국한되지 않고 개설되어 있다는 특징이 있다. 즉, 정치학, 경제학, 사회학 등 다양한 사회과학 분야로 한국학 강좌가 분산되어 있으며, 한국 경제 강좌 또한 이와 같이 분과 학문 분야에서 나타난다. 일본 대학의 한국 경제 강좌는 교양학부, 문학부, 경제학과, 상학과, 인문사회과학과, 국제관계학과 및 식품경영학과 등 다양한 학부 및 학과에 폭넓게 분포되어 있다. 한국 경제를 집중 조명한 강좌도 있으나 대부분의 강좌는 일본을 비 롯하여 아시아 지역 국가들의 경제를 서로 비교하거나 국제정치경제관계 속에서 한국 경제는 하나의 사례로 활용되고 있다. 한국 경제를 집중 조명한 단독 강좌와 강좌 내용 중 일부로 한국이 포함되어 있 는 강좌, 두 경우 모두 공통적으로 한국의 급속한 경제성장 과정과 외환 위기 이후 선진국 수준으로 비 약적인 발전을 이룬 모습, 그리고 이로 인하여 직면한 오늘날의 여러 문제점을 주목하고 있다. 일본 대 학에 개설된 한국 경제 강좌는 한국 경제를 이해하는 것이 강좌의 일차적인 목표이지만 한국 경제에 대 한 심층적인 분석 결과는 궁극적으로 일본의 경제를 이해하는 데 주요한 목적이 있음을 밝히고 있다. 마지막으로 한국어 문헌 및 자료를 통해 한국 경제를 이해하는 강좌는 일본의 한국학 환경을 읽을 수 있는 특징적인 점으로 꼽을 수 있다.
